Dont forget every one cringed when they phased out the old eclipse and brought in the new one but now the evos back to replace the old eclipse sales post and they can sell more new eclipses and ...make more $

Re: New Eclipse!
What's everyone complaining about? There could be a Ferrari under all that cladding and you'd never know it. Why don't you wait for a picture that actually shows what the car looks like in some sort of meaningfull way before passing judgement?

sorry for the late reply, i just found this site. i work at the mitsu plant and have seen the 05 eclipse up close. all i can say is... its bad a$$. im not a big fan of anything we make but this car on my list of possible purchases next to the evo. that spy photo with the cladding might as well not even exist, it does the car no justice. i guess the cladding did its job.
heres an inside opinion, i cant post a pic but ill discribe it as best as i can.
overall shape reminds me of a cross between a 350z and a 911.
the rear end is rounded again and it has some big wheel flares.
the roofline is lower than the current model and there is little headroom in the back.
i havent seen the wheels yet, the ones in the pic are off an 04 gallant.
the spoiler is a chrome duck tail.
the spyder is a hard top.
6 speed tranny/ v6 - hp??? all i know about the engine is that its not the same as the gallant/endevor
no fob for the keyless entry, its built into the key itself
the dash is indiglo blue
as far as i know there is no turbo in the works.
although it is a PS model (ps24, gallant is ps41), its not on the same platform as the gallant.
i wish knew more but i didnt have much time to check it out.
this scetch is a little exagerated but its not too far off

That concept eclipe is ugly... I think
designers have no taste whatsoever. I wish I'm the head designer there at mitsu. I'll make sure you guys wont be dissapointed of me. How about a supra tail lights and butt on a viber platform, with the GTR head lights? Does that sound good to you guys? If not, then I really dont understand why. I'm not saying that mitsu should copy the exact looks, but they can easily based their design on that styling; after all, those are the styles that most sport car consumers want anyway. A car that has the good of both most famous cars ever maded out of Japan. Make the new generation eclipse to be under 3,000 pounds and slap on the v6TT or the 4g63T. Equip it with all the goodies from the EVO MR and call it eclipse evolution. Sell that sexy, fast, racing inspired sex machine for 45K. I'll bet that you will jump off a building as Jacky Chang's stunman to get the money for it. Peace...

I like the Eclipse concept. Go read the March '04 issue of Sport Compact Car.
I'll pass on it, unfortunately, because it probably won't make it to market with the supplemental rear electric drive, it'll just be FWD.

The new Eclipse is also rumored to be using a 3.8 liter V6...SOHC WITH MIVEC, along with electric hybrid technology. the car is also rumored to be a twin electric motor making it all wheel drive, but that is unlikely. the car is supposed to rock a 200+ HP electric motor linked up to a 260+ HP MIVEC V6. The car is also rumored to get about 30+ MPG with 260 HP and a 6 spd tranny in a SMALL car again. I dont htink this will hurt the Evo at all, it is a different demographic for sales than the Evo is. I think this car, if it delivers a good percentage of what they claim, will bring back a good number of people that stopped buying eclipses when they ditched the 4G63 turbo powerplant! This car will be awesome and I am going to end up buying one to park next to my 2004 Ralliart Lancer and my soon to purchase 1995 Dodge Stealth RT.
One last thing...Mobius, can you post a better pic of the rear of the car please. If you can get a little bigger shot that would be great too. Thanks man,
Michael
