Anybody sell their EVO to get a new V8 M3?

I'm contemplating selling my beloved 06 Evo9 to buy a 08 or 09 M3 sedan. I love the evo, but I guess I'm growing up. The 4 liter 414hp V8 that revs to 8400 rpm appeals to me. The Evo gets a bit old on the highway.

My evo is so much fun, I know I'll miss it. Got the green, meth, cams, coilovers, etc. so its fun for me. Just curious if anyone on the board currently owns a 08 or 09 M3 and how you feel about the switch.

Remember, this is just on the NEW M3 with the v8 for those who actually OWN the vehicle. I have read all of the magazine articles and am not interested in those who have not actually driven the NEW M3 or own one.

Thanks for any feedback!!

I have test driven the new M3...wasn't that impressed. Truth be told I was more impressed with the 135i. The new M3 is too heavy, and lacks top end power. It has a killer interior and sex appeal however, and handles fairly well, but the price tag leaves me desiring something MUCH faster, like a Z06. I don't understand how you could really consider a 3700lb car a "sports car". I think it could be more accurately described as a "battle tank". If it came with 200 more hp it might be worth it. You have to realize how terrible your gas mileage will be with a vehicle like this as well. I am a huge BMW fan, so please don't think I am a bimmer hater, because of I have owned older M3's, and I absolutely adore the 335i and 135i. BMW has strayed away from its racing heritage with the new M3, much like Mitsu has done with the Evo X...its up to you to decide in the end, test drive a lot of cars (check out some C6 Z06's!)

I drove a Z06 and was very close to purchasing a used one this summer. They are crazy fast, there is no doubt. I was actually shaking after driving it for the first time!! It was a blast! I wanted to keep the evo and get a used Z06. I decided against it at the last minute.

I wanted a new M3 because it has 4 doors and is more upscale and fun to drive-even on the highway. 414 hp is not a slouch, I think we have all been spoiled lately with crazy hp. A Ferrari 355 only made 375hp!!!!

I appreciate your input!! Maybe I should just order the FP Red to replace the Green and make a decision in Spring. I love driving the EVO everywhere except on the Highway.

I drove the M3 as well and was actually impressed by the suspension and the engine. I drove the dct they offer instead of the manual they offer-I wish I had drove the proper manual.

Keep the evo... The M3 is a retirement car.... plus the M3 world is nothing like the Evo world. Stick with us

hey man I actually work for bmw and for an everyday car it is nice but really the only way that car shines is on the road course. We have a test track and got to take both the manual car and the new smg car out and it was really fun on the track but when we had it on the street it was kinda boring. The four hundred horsepower is kinda a let down when the 135 is really not that far behind it in straight line. Plus for the price you pay is crazy. I would look into the vette cause I think that is going to be my plan if I get rid of my evo. Just my 02 cents.

the only thing i agree with here is that it is highly price, and its a little heavy. other then that im pretty sure this guy didnt test drive a new m3.

no top end power? more like only top end power. i've driven multiple e90/92 m3's in the twin clutch and manual and couldnt have been more impressed.

bmw has strayed away from its racing heritage? the engine is an m5/6 engine minus 2 cylinders. they strayed away with those cars too?

the ITB's make it sound like the car is an f1 car, and with the twin clutch its as fast as possible shifting.

back on topic....

i dont own an m3 but have driven them and can tell you that not only do i think you will not regret the decision if you buy one, you may not even miss the evo. not sure the weather in your area but the only thing you might miss is the awd.

if you really want to be convinced to get one, just test drive one.

Most people make the mistake of selling their evo to buy a 335i then regret not waiting and wishing they spent the extra $10k for the M3

I say if you are young at heart keep the evo, if you feel like its time to move on to something more grown-up then get the M3. My dad had the old and now has the new M3, this car is so sexy and it is no couch potato this car pulls all the way to redline, we have just been lead to think that the majority of cars are so slow cause we all have freakin fast Evos. I would not get the Zo6 granted it is faster than a regular evo I find this car to be uncomfortable, but its still pretty sexy on the outside. Whatever you decide im sure you won't be dissapointed.

Heavy cars **** me off because I like how lighter cars transition in turns. I'd buy an Elise personally.

Agreed please keep the evo and replace the green not with the red but get the HTA 35R please..evos are sick..you keep saying the M3 is a 4 door..isnt your evo a 4 door too? evos are so much fun to drive the bang for your buck is uncomparable..you got ppl making 450WHP at 22psi..the bmw might come with 414 but from the factory when they throw hp numbers at you to my knowledge(could be wrong) they dont measure it in whp..

for instance my 05 evo viii comes with 271hp stock as you all know but thats not 271whp to my knowledge

the M3 is a retirement car you want something slick and fast and fun keep the evo man and go with a 35r
