meh...rb25 RWD or an sr20 would do the job just fine or keep it legit and cheap build the factory L26 with a turbo...that alone would kick down some doors real nicely. If I ever got my hands on a good 240/280 i would build it with the Z432R look but with a built L26 or S20 if i could get my hands on it.
e30's are great cars for track racing. if you can afford it and find a good e30 i would go for this hands down.
i would agree DSM Eclipses/Stealths etc. are a dime a dozen but since you know your way around DSM's and most likely 4g63t's go a little more on the unique side i would suggest you pick up a 2nd-4th gen mirage/colt and drop in a built 4g63t into it...since speed corps has your back they should know what it would take to make it a AWD conversion or turn the AWD into a RWD...while your at it spend a few extra days and stitch weld the body and you'd have an excellent drag racer/track car thats cheap and light.
2nd-4th gen mirages can run from 300-2000k [2k is a perfectly running car thats been well maintained with pristine body and interior. like new!] All you would need is a good rolling shell everything else you can practically pull out of an eclipse and put it into the mirage.

hell a factory 4g63t in a light, gutted mirage would be fast already in my opinion. To do that with the stitch welding and AWD fabrication done backyard status would be less than 10k

well after owning a lancer, getting a mirage and doing a 4G63/AWD swap isn't an option. It's way to much work, and really not worth the effort.
I want to use a car that's at least remotely performance minded to begin with. Hence wanting the turbo/awd talon. After spending lots of time and money on a FWD econobox, i learned it's really not worth the hassle. There is a reason a lot of people modify certain cars
I absolutely LOVE the looks of the Z's. And it'd be cool to learn a new car. Plus it'd be something original.
however like i said, i know mitsu's a lot better. and parts are more readily available. not to mention it'd probably be cheaper

that first z is not a bad deal. it has a desireable head and the bigger 280 bottom end with it. with the right crank and a bore w/some new pistons, you could have a high compression 3.0l motor. grab a used set of triple webers and you've got a pretty powerful, light weight car. plus, it looks like theres already been some type of conversion to the small 240 bumpers and thus alot of weight has been taken off.
now you've got my wheels turning. i just went out to the garage and stared at my 240 that's in need of some work. might be time to start. definitely do the datsun. they are great cars and they look incredible when done properly.
