Talking gonna do a project car

so here's the deal. I got my new GTI, and it's perfect.....so perfect in fact, i don't want to mess with it (also my wife doesn't want me messing with it either)

So i think i want to pick up a cheap project car, for no more than a couple of grand and slowly work on that.
I was thinking of getting either a DSM, like a Talon AWD Turbo, or possibly picking up an old 240z or 280z

Working for Speed Corps, means i can get Mitsu/DSM parts for cheap, plus i already know mitsu's really well.
However i absolutely love the datsun Z's. And i think it'd be kick **** to have one.

I am gonna try and build it up to be a good weekend racer. I don't have mountains of money, but i have a good cash flow. I'm gonna take my time with this and I don't really have any end goal, so we shall see how it goes.

if you have any other suggestions on what car i should work on, let me know. Or if you think either one of my suggestions is good, give me your opinions

I love the classic looks of the Datsuns, they are sexy as hell. I like the front lexan headlight covers that some have. Good luck.

By the way, there is a TV show in which they randomly pick two cars and have two team building the same car with the same tools and same mods, they did one on a Datsun and they had a 1/4 mile shootout, Do you know what I am talking about?

E30, build it into a spec car, track the **** out of it. That is my plan

I do love me some old Datsun though, but I want me next car to be something I can race.

Those are all tried and true, just look for any of those that you find for a good deal.

Civic hatch is what I would get. But that's just because that's my dream "cheap" race car.

Its a good find for someone who knows about JDM tuning
I guess DSM's are considered JDM now.

Don't buy a DSM, you'll wind up spending more than you want for a car that doesn't want to run correctly.

I would go with the Datsun, DSM's are a dime a dozen, but a clean nicely done old Datsun is not something I run into 10 times a day.
