Recommend a good toy/project?

Looking for something rwd most likely, have two awd vehicles right now...looking into some 944's, 280Z's, S2000...but they all have big pitfall's. 280Z and other datsuns seem to be plagued by rust, S2000 looks like its way too hard to make power unless you drop serious coin...kinda wanted a miata with maybe an sr20 swap but they're a little too small imo.

Post up (with pics if you have) of some good candidates for weekend/project sporty car...something that handles well and doesn't have a big problem making power, also not looking to do something like a Supra/Vette/F-Body/Mustang as they are getting kinda popular in my area...looking to do something a little less done.

Actually thought about the older m3's, conquest and starions are a little on the heavy side tho.

I suggest a late model Miata with the LS3 motor swap from Flyin' Miata.

Faster than a Corvette, and less expensive.

LS1 engine fits like it was made for the Miata.

On-track video. LS1 sounds awesome.

How much might it cost?

Way to go Bill and company!

The rx7 was a big idea for me for awhile, but people are selling them for money! Been seeing them go for well into the 25k range...thought that was a little much as they usually have decent mileage on the body.

No one throwing around s2ks? My friend keeps pushing them but they just are hard to make power out of without removing the motor.

NSX's dropped a lot in price but are they worth it? I know SCC had a comtech supercharged one that was supposed to be a track beast...but I don't know much about them,.

imho, z car is the easiest/cheapest/best platform to use for a project. there's one for sale right now in ct, so it's close to you. you can do a v8, sr20det or rb26 swap and the thing will fly. they are light and can be made to handle quite well. i'll look for the sale link i was referring to. it's on evom right now.

i was wrong, the car is in mass. again, i think it's the best platform to mod. imo, one of the best all around sports cars ever made. not the fastest, but they look great and can be modded to the n'th degree.

i'm a big 240sx fan too, but most of them are already chopped, and if not, they're expensive and quite a bit heavier than a z. plus, i don't think they look nearly as good.

I am not aware of your budget but if you want something RWD that already is fast and decently cheap go for the old M-3 like a 95-96. They do have good brakes and comes with rear LSD.

It will take you a few thousand just to get a Datsun to the level of a older M-3, same thing goes for the Miata.

The S2000 are great but they cost more. A older M-3 will put you close to a S2000 for much less. As per the Porsche, it is also a good candidate, try to get the s though.
