Differences between a EVO and GSX?

Ok, in another forum I read... a bunch of people have been comparing the EVO to GSX's. Saying basically... EVO's are just 4 door GSX's that turn better.
I was wondering if anyone had some technical info about what most of the major differences between the cars are.
Thanks

For one thing, the motor is opposite. Meaning the cam gears are on the opposite side of the engine. Im pretty sure the GSX does not have the twin scroll 16G turbo. We also get the forged internals. I'm sure there are more I just don't know what they are.

i've heard (and i'm pretty sure its true from differences in hp) that the whole awd system in general is stronger

Are you looking for a general basic difference or all the fine comb technical gritty details.

Generally - It's more powerful, better handling 4 door sedan that looks good.

Technically - It's easier to list the few similairites
4 tires
1 steering wheel
4 wheel drive
4 cylinder
turbo
windshield
mirrors

and even those have details that are totally different.

The similarities between and Evo and an GSX are further apart than a GSX and a Jeep.

None of the eclipse have the twin scroll turbo.stock it was the t25 and the 14b for the 1gens. I too would agree that the EVO's awd is a much better system than what was on the gsx. The newer 4g63 has a diferent compresion ratio also doesnt it? I think in some aspects they are common but at the same time very diferent.

Quoted from a post on the NWDSM list a while back:

EVO

560cc injectors
Big 16G
FMIC with 3 H2O sprayers
Decent IC pipes
Very rigid chassis
Very fast steering
Much stronger 2 shaft transmission
Much stronger differential/driveshafts
Brembo brakes
Chassis and suspension designed to work with 17"x8" rims from the get
go.
Recaro seats
Momo steering wheel
3 year warranty
cold air intake
very high flowing exhaust manifold/O2 housing
aluminum front A-arms McPherson Strut (stronger for Rally racing / maybe
not as good as 2G for road racing)
cast aluminum rear sub frame/trailing arms (looks like a pretty good
design refined over the years, great rear suspension is the starting
point of a great handling car)
1/4 mile stock 13.5
0-60 stock 5.0

2G Eclipse 97-99

450cc injectors
Very small T25 turbo (smaller than 1G)
Small SMIC with no H20 sprayers
Tiny IC pipes
Not so rigid chassis
Not so fast steering
Weak 3 shaft transmission but better than 1G (not saying much)
Weaker differential/drive shafts weak but not as bad as early 1G
Terrible brakes
Chassis and suspension designed to work with 17"x6.5" rims
boring seats
boring steering wheel
warranty - can you say crank walk!
hot air intake
exhaust manifold/O2 housing better than 1G
multi-link front suspension (not as strong as on the EVO but in theory
should work better on a road course.)
Steel rear sub frame/trailing arms (better than 1G)
1/4 mile stock 15.3
0-60 stock 6.5

All that said, there are a lot of similarities between my 98 GSX and an Evo VIII.

WHAM! Fricken Evo is the same as an Eclipse . They are just pissed because we have a 20 times better car and it makes them feel better. No eclipse would ever, EVER exceed my expectations like the Evo does

I had an eclipse GST for 5 years before getting the evo. The only thing the evo and the eclipse share is this mitsubishi feeling. I cant explain it but it just feels like a mitsu when you drive it. When I got in the evo the first time, I drove it fine without jumping the clutch once or anything. It has the same feel to it. When idling, the evo sounds almost idential to an eclipse. The very noticeable difference to me though is the engine response and the weight distribution. I drove my friends GS-T after owning my evo for about a month and the first thing I noticed is that the eclipse feels like i'm driving a boat or something. The whole thing tilts when you turn, and just feel a lot more loose and clumsy I guess.

If you previous DSM owners drive a DSM now after owning an evo and you'll know exactly what i'm talking about.

As a educated owner of modded out 99 GS-T I'd say that most real DSM guys know the differences in the two, but the fact still remains that there in no other U.S. market car that shares more in common in the engine bay. Plus the tuning methods are similar. It will be 5 more months until I buy my EVO (4g63 heaven) but I know when I do there are a countless number of DSMs out there that will destory my evo on the power side. Eclipse are no ***** car (expect for 3rd gens=).

Looking at the replies from eclipse owners here...I don't see where anyone is saying an eclipse is better than an EVO. I'm not pissed. The EVO is a better car IMO stock for stock. I really do enjoy my eclipse but I would also love to own an EVO to have the experience of owning such a renowned (sp?) car. Being 20 times better, I don't know about that, but is it better tho?....YES. Try driving a modded eclipse (not sure if you have dealt with them or not) but they have been tried and true, and also known for their power when modded. And as another poster noted: The eclipse is no ***** car! In my area there are alot of DSM's also that would destroy an Evo for a way lesser price tag. Each car is great in it's OWN aspects. I too hope to be a proud Evo owner one day.

I always get a kick out of these GSX vs EVO posts...

Different cars, same heritage. Thats about it.

Speaking in terms of defending the GSX. (Yes, I agree the EVO is a better car. All in good fun.)

GSX has
Better paint?
Leather.
Been out since 95. I have had more fun in GSX because I have had it longer. And try getting parts for the EVO.
And it wieghs more, I got more lbs for my money.

EVO is better because ____ blah. We know already. Thats why we are on this site.

I love the GSX and EVO. I would love to see if a rack and pinion gear set would work in the GSX. Thats probably my biggest complaint about the GSX. That and the weight.

My Take on This

I owned a 97 GS-T Eclipse, had it for two years, I loved the car. I just felt like I was in a cofin, and after two years of ownership the novelty of the Turbo on the Eclipse wore off and I got rid of it. I currently own a EVO VIII. This car has none of the rattles my eclipse had, remember that the EVO has 200 additional wields for strength in the chassis. The Eclipse felt like a wet noodle in the twisties, my wife's NEON spanked my Eclipse in the twisties. The EVO is the best handling car that I have ever driven, Modified or not. The Eclipse didn't have as much turbo lag down low, because of the smaller turbo, and at speed, the Eclipse's steering was very lose, and I hated that. I have all the things I loved about my Eclipse in the EVO, plus more space, stronger engine, superbly built in Japan (not USA like the Eclipse) and not everyone and their mom doesn't drive an EVO I feel the Eclipse is a very handsome car, and it was a GREAT car, but compared to the EVO, its like comparing a Celica to a Supra. Same heritage maybe, but two completely different animals. "United we Stand"
