STi's running extremely hot?!

Also, in the new Modifed Mag they say this about their project STi:
"Another obvious trait of the Sti is that it runs hotter than a hooker on payday"
"The engine is hot and the exhaust is even hotter, so don't plan on transporting any ice cream cakes in the trunk. It's like an oven. We contacted Fluidyne in Ontario, Ca. about the inevitable heat problem.........
Modified Mag is replacing the stock radiator to try and help the heat issue.

Apparently mounting the intercooler on top of the engine wasn't such a good idea......hot engine releases heat into intercooler which is torn between cool air coming in from the top and heat from the bottom.
Evidently I guess the only thing the hood scoop is really good for is killing birds, as I'm sure the hot engine plays havoc on the intercooler which will undoubtedly suffer from some sort of failure because of the hot/cool conditions it operates under. Basic scientific principle....hot metal and cool metal don't mesh.
If you have an STI switch to a FMIC or continue to cook dinner on your intercooler..... in otherwords support the Modified Mag project......
If you have an EVO, laugh and eat your ice cream and continue to laugh.

Yeh, the Sti's seem to have inherent problems that affect most or all STi's that need addressed. Such as detonation and running extremely hot. How would you like to have the bumper melted on your brand new car?
The Evo has it's problems also, but they seem to affect less cars.

Due to an angry STi owner pointing out that I left something out...I'd like to state it affects STi's with AFTERMARKET exhausts. There you go pk! (nasioc.com member that pointed out my mistake)
Just make sure you replace the intercooler and/or radiator if you want an aftermarket exhaust or glus a heat shield to your bumper

I can vouch for the STi being unbelievably hot under the hood. At the autocross yesterday, a couple of STis put their hoods up after a run and it was HOT. Much hotter than an Evo. Too compacted in there. Have to say, those STis were almost the fastest cars there (it was a BMW CCA meet, so a couple of highly tuned Bimmers beat them).
You know this happens on the WRX's too. If your stupid enough to put ANY and I repeat ANY aftermarket exhaust tip next to your Plastic bumber then its going to burn! This is a result of a bad install not bad design! The title of this post is really misleading. It makes it sound like the STi's are over heating.
Just to clarify the problem that was originally posted was a guy put a turbo back exhaust on his sti and put the tip too close to his rear bumper, and not far enough out from the bumper. The hot gasses and the tip cause the plastic to burn. It does not take much heat to do this. It's only people that install things wrong that this happens on. I have seen it happen on Civics!

I have seen plenty melted. And is always due to an aftermarket exhaust. You try to use this example to support your thought that the STi is running on the edge amd overheating, and that is just BS. The nasioc post IS due to a bad install. The orginal poster ever says the exhaust was not all the way out past the bumper. I don't know what the magazine is saying. But if they are talking about the engine bay then that is a different story. NO ONE is over heating and having their radiators blow.
This thread is just a bunch of BS and misinformation.

In case you missed it..read the quote again...this is DIRECT from Modified Mag about their project STi.

I didn't say anyone was overheating. They are just running extremely hot from front to rear..all the way to the tip. Even more than a Wrx. If it wasn't true why would the magazine stress it so much and replace their radiator???

broeli-
I'm not trying to drag this out in fact I'm only posting again because you decided to label me "an angry STi owner"and post my "name". I'm not angry at all I just thought you x-cross posted here and imprezawrxsti the misinformation that STi's are running hot.
One tuner Mag reported they wanted to replace the radiator and one guy melted his bumper by putting short hangers on his aftermarket exhaust. You added 2+2 and got 22. Not a single person has reported his/her STi running hot!
The STi does have some issues -running hot just isn't one
.
Sure open the hood after a run it's hot down there probably hotter then most. But so far no ones over heated or watched there car's temp climb.
This is how rumours start.
pk!

Of course the STI is going to run hotter!!!! come on people!....it does not take a rocket scientist to figure out that a engine that is detonating is going to run hotter than a engine that is not.....detonation does mean a hotter burn in the cylinder ya know!

BTW, if you read my post title it has a QUESTION MARK. I wasn't stating for an absolute fact that all Sti's run hot..it was partially a question with a few tidbits of info from nasioc and Modified Mag. Talk about sensitive
It does run hot though. I've seen plenty of cars with tips that don't clear the bumper or are close to them that don't melt the plastic away
