EVO IX> STI.

U think a 500hp evo is not reliable? Go ahead then spend twice as much to get the same power out of a STI and lets see which one lasts longer.

Cant believe anyone thinks the STI interior is better than a IX interior. The smurf colors, interior rattles all over the fudging place, and super crapy STI seats VS. Momo steering wheel, Recaro seats, carbon fiber dash, stock gauge cluster. Please,.

There has been countless treads debating the merits of the Evo's and the Sti's. In the end, they are both very capable cars and response well to modifications. Both cars has there advantages and disadvantages. So in the end, if you love the car, then that's all that matters.

Nope, my name is TJ. And I would never drive another VW. They are assembled in Mexico and you can definitely tell from how absolutely horribly they are put together. I cannot tell you how many times I replaced the radiator on the car... Maybe I just had a ****ty VW, but at least 4 times in less then 50k miles. Too many problems for me.

Exactly. I still love Evos, especially how they look. But the STI grows on me everyday and I am beginning to like it a bit more... It is not as raw, but still very nice.

Someone PMed me about this... Here is what I said. Granted, it is completely my opinion, but here you go:

I am actually very happy with the car (besides for the power difference haha). My evo had 497whp... and the transfercase was on the edge of going, and I was worried about the transmission... So i sold it last year. I drove a 2002 VW Passat and missed a turbo awd car so badly that I decided I wanted another one.. But one that was more reliable in general... And I am very happy I went with the STI. I know that my Evo was a High HP car, but the quality felt quite ****ty for spending 20 grand... Don't get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE Evos... still do to this day, but the overall feel of the STI i like a lot better. It feels like it was put together with much better quality and materials then my Evo was (04 GSR). I like the IXs, especially the MRs, so I am not sure how much of a difference you will notice honestly, but I am very happy I went with the STI.

If I were you and you plan on going for an STI, go for the 2006... The 07s have a tune problem (when stock) because of new emission standards and it runs lean.. the 06s are honestly the best year (agreed upon by many forums). Also, I really like the fact that you can change the power distribution from AWD to RWD... especially while making long trips. I get about 3 more mpg by putting it in RWD compared to AWD on the highway. My only complaint so far, that I was well aware of, was the blue interior everywhere. But You can easily swap it out with a WRX and have black seats (or go aftermarket) and black floor mats fix it instantly... But, the blue "suede" or whatever it is, is actually really high quality on the doors and feels nice, but I do wish it was black.

I am still learning a lot about the car and the features, but it really is close to an Evo. It drives almost the same, it just feels like im driving a nicer car compared to an Evo... Like this might be a bit of a stretch, but it feels like im driving a BMW (in terms of quality, it still has a rough ride, even stock, and my evo was lowered on swift springs) compared to my Evo (regular Mitsubishi). Even by popping the hood, you can tell that everything is put together using better quality parts... As it appears and feels anyway.

Have you ever rode in an STI? They sound a lot better with an exhaust too cause of the boxter engine... and you get a a much stronger transmission and transfercase.. The engine can hold about 450whp Stock... Evos are about 500-550whp stock. And contrary to popular belief, STIs are easier to make faster.. except once you get to 400whp+, but many people with Evos never go that high. I am planning on taking the car to AMS once I am home in Chicago (I am in college in Texas) and getting an intake, tune, and exhaust. That alone will put me around 350whp with 375 pounds of torque (my evo had 408 pounds of torque) and that is all I really care about (off the line acceleration is mainly torque).

Hope that helps a bit, feel free to ask any questions.

Contrary to your belief, STIs are cheaper to mod firstoff. Not by much, they are almost identical. Even ask AMS if you do take my word for it.

Second, I am very happy with the STI interior compared to my Evos... besides for the seats of course. Although they do fit my well (6'1, slim 190 lbs). Also, I do not have the stock guage cluster (didn't want it). And my interior rattling all over the place? The car has 30k miles and all I hear is the better sounding exhaust.. So I am not sure what you trying to get at. Not a noise inside the cabin... And I got the OEM sub woofer under the passenger seat. Not bad for a stock one...

Don't get me wrong, I love Evos, and will definitely have an IX once I am done with college (3.5-8 years, depending on if i go to grad school)

AMS are full of s^%& when it comes to STI. I had an STI and it cost my $4000 to go 12.9 so please don't try to come here and say that Evo are not reliable. first off you will see how reliable the STI are. I came over to Evo because my 06 STI just sucked A$$ and I tried to do what AMS did and the car was a complete pos. I am in no way bashing AMS because my Evo has all the upgrades + tune from AMS but when they went through that little STI project they though that they can make some money but they dropped it just as fast. STI is a good car if you want to keep it stock.

You feel stupid because you bought a STI and now you will get raped by SS and SRT-4 lol even hondas. Not off line but after that your done.

It was cheap for AMS <<<(key word here) because they can dyno tune at will and are obviously very knowledgeable with there cars. The average guy has to get the car tuned after every sticker is applied or the car will fall on it's face which can get very costly. Plus as you really get into modding (which I'm sure your not planning) the design of the engine being split in two unlike an I4 there are more parts to buy which gets expensive. But all in all don't take it personal. I would have bought a X.

What reason does AMS, a well respected tuner, have to lie about the STI on an Evo forum? Just because you had a bad experience doesn't mean STIs are suddenly bad cars.
You are aware that the STI and Evo run nearly identical numbers so if the STI gets "raped" by SRT-4s, Cobalt SS' and Hondas, logically the Evo does as well. Granted logic has no place in fanboyism but still.
