I went to the dark side... 06 STI
Some people on here are so narrow minded its not even funny. You cant tell them there is something better than the Evo for your driving use, or they get all bent.
The way I look at it, The STi is an amazing car. The blue interior = the lamness. As far as who has the better interior and options inside hands down the STi has alot more to offer. The Evo is so freakin cheezy inside the car. Don't get me wrong I love Evos though. As far as making long drives either car in near stock form will do fine. I drove my 03 VIII with all bolt ons and a tune 1500 miles (21 hours) straight threw 4 times from FL to Ma. My car did it without a single issue. The funny thing about that is my 01 Spyder GT made the same trip once and the car started to misfire after about 14 hours and tossed a CEL and the car was on fresh plugs put in the week prior to the trip.
Lets not forget the sound. STi has that edge by a long shot. Evos sound good up untill they get a big turbo mod then they sound like complete *** -My Evo did and I hated it lol
Eitherway. IMO you picked a sweet car. of course EvoM will have some narrowminded Evo lovers just as the scooby world will do the same for their kind

nice car, but as far as reliability goes, i kinda blow that whole "EVO's aren't reliable" thing straight to hell. my IX MR has 118k HARD miles on it and have never had a problem with it yet. any car you mod up to 500hp is going to break. just leave it alone and it will be reliable. good looking STi though. congrats
I just sold my 05 STI. I think the 06 is cool too and is a nice daily. I'd go wingless to fly under the radar. If you hear a clunking in the rear it's either the axle bolts gone loose which you can replace cheap or more likely the inverted struts clunking in which you can just regrease them.
I don't like the Evo/STi debate, I love both cars and if I could I would have one of each in my garage. I just prefer the Evo. And I wanted to make sure you didn't think that time was impossible.
The best for a bone stock evo I've ever heard of is a 12.7 so a 12.9 is possible. Last season I watched a guy with a bone stock RS running 13 flat three times in a row and a 12.9 on his last. This was all done at Atco which is a good track to get #s.

I hope your not saying it's impossible to run a 12.9 in a stock IX because I ran a 12.84 bone stock (have the time slips to prove it but can't access photobucket from work) in my MR last spring.
