Then stick with what you know. I've been wanting to build a Mirage with a 4G92 DOHC MIVEC engine for some time. Hondas bring blood, whereas a decent Mirage would be half as much. A Corolla is just too boring for me to even consider.

If you really want to try something different, maybe do a Protege, they seem to hold up well, and they always seemed to win comparos back in the day for their handling - and they won't bring the crazy high prices an H or Toyo badge will.

Purely based on personal experience - Prism/Corolla or 94-97 accord.
Corolla is surprisingly comfortable (off highway!) the accord is just rock solid

When I did this I got a car with under 100k (better for financing, if that is an option for you) and ended up with a 90's Integra GSR. Something to think of is what type of maintenance would be do and whether it has already been done. E.g. - the Integra needed a new timing belt soon after I got it, which was a bit pricey. However, the car is outstanding and I have since sold it to my Uncle who has continued driving the crap out of it and it is still doing well (good ol' Honda).

Thanks....All good suggestions. I did not remember about the PRISM at all.

As for staying with the Mitsu idea, if I get anything near to a 4G15, 4G93 or 4 or 4G63 I know I am going to end up modding. This is strictly to be a daily driver while I rebuild myself. In the future there will be plenty of time for modding when I have my OWN roof over my head.

to the op , please dont listen to this guy... psshhh poor man's integra type r, maybe a poor man's integra type r would be a .."humm im thinking"... a integra gsr..?? not to mention that the prelude all use a h22 and not even remotely close to the b18c5 that the type r uses, instead of the gsr which uses a b18c1, so get ur facts straight before u try to negatively influence a op, and btw 6k for a prelude would be a rip off, i wouldnt get ne honda for more than 3k... i sold my old gsr for 1800 with 110k miles on the chassis and 5k on a turbo'ed b18b... all that being said, "venting" can find many beater hondas for under 3k on craigslist...

The point of not getting something like that is to save money.

With my Evo 2 right now I have been on the verge of some major spending. I need to get out before it gets out of hand. Not as young as I used to be and with a wedding around the corner the silly s... has to end.

That talon is basically another Evo 2

Focus ZX3. Cheap to own, fun to drive, easy to fix.

I wish...only ones I have seen are still 2-3K because they all have motor swaps etc.

We'll see though. I still like the prism idea and the corolla.

I have had two great, cheap cars. First was a 94 Ford Escort - made it through two years of a newly licensed teenager, then got passed down through the family for a few more years. It had 156k on it when I bought it for $500. Second car was a 92 Nissan 240SX SE. Still one of my favorite cars. I overpaid for mine, but you can find S13's for relatively cheap. Lightweight, RWD, easy to work on, and mine was reliable. In the two years I owned it, I maybe put $800 into it in repairs and maintenance. Fun car to drive in stock form!
