2jz vs rb26??

So...was talking with Carter Jung, Editor of Import Tuner mag today. We were discussing our respective projects, and doing some bench racing of his Skyline versus my SC300, I was of course telling him how I would kick his *** which steered us into thinking...would people be interested in reading a article in which we do a buildup of these 2 legendary power houses?

some things we were thinking...

-same manufactures of parts
-both engines be .020 over
-same machine shop does the machine work(Justice Racing Engines)
-Dyno them on a engine dyno, so we can take the drivetrain out of the equation
-same engine management and same tuner
-same turbo and exhaust manifold manufacture
-same head porter, with flow comparisons

What do you guys and gals think? Do able? can you think of something constructive you think we should add to this?

how about a baseline in stock form on the engine dyno before they get built so you can see which one responds better to the mods.

That would be a great comparison as far as comparing the motors. Comparing it on the track would take in all other factors, and it would be too much for just two guys who are just doing it for informative reasons.

i say RB....i forgot what i was watching, but one top driver or fabricator in japan chose the RB over the 2J. I think he put it in a supra too. but i could be mistaken.

With no restrictions it could be close but if they are both not stroked or have the above rules the 2jz will win. The RB head does flow very well but the added displacement of the 2jz will make the difference I think.

The other parameter I would add would be to have the same piston speed. The RB has the shorter stroke/displacement, so it'll need more revs. How many more revs? Keep the max piston speeds the same.

What year is it? In 1998 maybe this would be good, but now in 2009 how many different makes have made over 500hp/liter from a inline design? It's not the brand that matters it's just the preference these days and the cost.

Nissan, GM, Ford, Honda, Toyota, Mitsu all have engines that in the tuner world have produced over 500hp/liter.

I don't know what the test would prove?

Well the 4g63 has made close to 1400bhp. Thats over 700hp/liter. Most those 2jz and rb that are making 1500+ have stroker kits so they make about 500hp/liter at best. Now having an RB26 rev to 12k would be impressive. I have seen a 2jz spin 10k and it sounded absolutely insane.

lol...they are the death of my wallet

Just wanted to reiterate that this test has nothing to do with science, and everything to do with ego. There is simply no way to make it a scientific review as we are trying to compare two totally different animals. ALTHOUGH we are trying to make it a close enough comparison, to really make it a comparison as we can. Which is why parts selection is critical for us. There will be whiners when we are done, wishing we did this or that. As well as those wondering what the hell!? are we doing this for. It comes down too street cred. When you mention legendary motors of the sport compact world, the RB and 2J are most notably the top engines that people speak of first and are rivals for sure in terms of the respect and idea of which is better.

maybe we can add a little spark to that fire....and have fun doing it!
