Torsen makes the diffs (or at least has made the diffs, there are some differences from year to year) but there are claims about Porsche making or designing the transmission itself. I read it on NASIOC some time ago, I'll see if I can find the thread or article.Originally Posted by sblvro
where did you hear that? torsen is just a brand of limited slip commonly used. but I doubt if it is porsche design.http://www.driveperformance.subaru.c.../blueprint.asp

coming from SOA itself, is a no! if it was porsche designed, shouldn't SOA acknowledge it already?Evolved Member
Maybe but a representative denying a link doesn't mean there isn't one, it'll have to remain a forum legend of sorts.

Uhhh....I don't think Subaru uses Mitsubishi turbos. They use IHI turbos and I couldn't find any link between IHI and Mitsubishi. I even looked at my new turbo and didn't see any Mitsubishi symbols.

I'll check the turbo I took out, I believe it's an IHI turbo as well.

Incorrect Otter! A horizontally opposed 6 (eg Porsche 911) is perfectly balanced...4 cylinder is NOT....Originally Posted by otter
The design is also naturally balanced, so balance shafts aren't necessary for smooth operation, which means less rotating weight.
