A lot of old school DSMers who have Evos don't care for this site that much and tend to stay on the DSM sites. I have a GS-T and an Evo, and I used to own a 1G GSX.

I miss my old GS-T from time to time. Would have liked to keep both as it was a convertible :O

Very nice Chris!!! Cant wait to see some new footage of that beast!

As for the stickers and interioir, I already removed the stickers and I think I may drop in my IX SE seats into it! Would definitely make the car alot more attractive!

I plan on getting a pump gas tune very soon, seeing how far I can get on straight 93 and high boost, then taking the c16 to as high as the tune and boost will allow me! Looking for new numbers, then I need a bit more seat time, then its off to the track for some numbers!

Thank you everyone for the kind words! As for others, well not every car is someones cup of tea!

Dan

BTW - Unfortunately I totalled my car on the way to work, so I didn't infact have financial issues with the Evo, its just hard to admit I lost it in an accident when I wasn't even going fast... Its quite embarrassing actually...

its easy for people to judge, and make comments, when no one knows you, nor your situation ... however since u posted on a public forum, its open to people's opinions....

i have to say that indeed it is a backwards move. you go from a 2006 vehicle, to a 1997 vehicle... age, wear, miles, etc...
also, u gave up ACD, Mivec, and a host of other improvements (after all, u basically went from an evolution 9 to an Evolution 4). yet another setback is that now you have a smallish coupe, rather than a sedan, and, one that had a nicer interior, brembos, and recaros. finally, i also think the Evo is a rarer and cooler car, to put it in "kids terms".

however, once again, i do not know your financial situation, nor your preference of coupe vs. sedan, nor much else. so i cant judge... g/l

Well around my area, Evo's are a dime a dozen. Everywhere you go there is a Evo, STi, etc. DSM's are MUCH rarer seeing as 3/4 of them are still in midst of a rebuild or fixing! LOL

Who say's its a step backwords? I already am thinking of a Wilwood brake kit to step in for the tired and old stock calipers/rotors. And I'm already thinking of putting my Recaro's in the GSX. Plus its in the eye of the beholder of what exactly a step backwords is.

For example:
-ACD dont do **** especially for someone like me that only drives it around on dry ground.
-Mivec is overrated IMO, hence Evo 8's are just as fast as the Evo 9's.
-Brembo's, please... They arent THAT great. They make much better kits and brake upgrades then the factory Evo brembo's. Trust me, the ACD and Brembo's didnt help me from slamming into a wall on a rainy day!
-Chicks dig 2 doors way more! I have barely gotten any looks in my Evo in the 2 1/2 - 3 years I had it. 2 Days of owning my GSX, I had 2 girls already tell me how they love my car! (Sad IMO)
- The built motor and trans on the GSX BOTH have less than 3000 miles! The twin disk as less than 2000 miles and the Turbo setup has 1200miles! Tell me how a 06 with 44k miles on the body with a freshly built motor and 8000miles on it, making 430awhp, compares to a car with 106k miles on the body (mind you its cleaner than my 06!) with the listed mileage of the motor/trans/etc, making 600awhp? IMO its an upgrade!

Didnt mean to disappoint the EvoM boards, but Thanks for the people who do like it! LOL

Dan

DSMs are becoming a rare sight to see. Parts for these things can be had for a steal, and what are the odds of finding engines/parts for an Evo in the junkyard? Granted, many of them are clapped out, but the newest one made is over a decade old now, and how many clapped out Evolutions are out there already, and they have only been around since 03!

I would do it for lower insurance and no car payment but it's just me.

i would imagine that if you are on a tight budget, u have no business investing time and $ into a fully-built car in the first place

Does it really matter that much WHY he made the move? Why do people invest tens of thousands of dollars into restoring a car made in the 60's? Just because he doesn't necessarily have the same automotive preference as some of you doesn't mean he's ignorant in his choice. The Evo community is starting to sound more and more like the Supra guys, arrogant and allmighty. We drive cheaply made $30K cars with a few neat tricks to make them perform well, they're not Porsches or Ferraris so get off your high horse. The guy likes DSM's and has a LONG history with them as do I. There's nothing wrong with that. I love my Evo but some of you guys are ridiculous.

And for the record my wife and I made just under 6 figures last year but I'd waste no time selling the Evo for something cheaper if it appealed to me. Money isn't always the reason people make a choice in cars.

no it certainly doesnt, as stated, no one knows him personally, hence no one is going to lose sleep over the decision to go back 5 generations (evolutions). however, as stated, since he asked for peoples' opinions, he is getting them .... learn to accept/deal with criticism

investment/resale is one good reason... reliving their youth is another... driving something ultra rare, though popular and well known on the streets, is yet another....
however comparing a 10y old car (of which tens, if not hundreds of thousands were made), to a 45y old car (of which just hundreds were originally made), isnt exactly a compelling example, nor is it even analogous
