2JZ 300zx Problems

Okay first, I realize this is an Evo forum and I do have an Evo, but this problem may be applicable to all cars and not just engine specific. I have posted this in both the Supra and Nissan forums without any luck. Does anyone have any ideas on what could be wrong?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So I have a Nissan 300zx with a 1993 2JZ-GTE swap and am having some weird problems. The car is very hard to start, and only does successfully when the car is cold. It idles very low (~400-800 rpms) and cuts out when the throttle is released when driving. The car will only start about an hour later, when the engine temps seem to go down, even when jump starting it. It turns over but does not start initially, then when trying to start I just get the clicking noise without it turning over even once. The car currently has a small Braille racing battery which I believe has a shorted cell, but this isn't likely to be the issue as I have purchased a larger Supra battery from Autozone and tried to start the car with that, which resulted in the same problems. Also when jump starting the car, the jumper cables are extremely hot and the car seems to be pulling a ton of amps to start the car. The problems seem to get worse as the car warms up and gets hotter. Anyone have any ideas?

Modifications are listed here.

Thanks in advance

- Chris

Sounds like it could be a short. Check for continuity in all the charging circuitry.

there HAS to be a better forum than here for JZ stuff or Z stuff, but basics would indicate shorts/grounds/alternator/battery/starter?
Tougher things to deal with would be the sensors/solenoids/electronic mumbo jumbo which is hard for us to decipher since this is frankenstein territory.
Did you go to a shop for the work? You can ask them?

Yeah thanks guys. Mid-Atlantic Motorsports did the swap in MD and we are taking it back to them, I just wanted to see what other people thought the cause might be. We were thinking that it might be a short or grounding issue. Thanks for the input guys

had a similar issue with my eclipse. it was the starter in my case. it was shorting and draining the battery if i let it sit. It would take a lot of juice just to get it started. it was also having issues with idling. the new starter fixed that as well. i think it was just pulling too much power and when the car was at idle it would die. just an option.
