Instead of getting a cheaper VIII, would a 330 whp WRX suffice?

He said it had STi supporting mods. That makes me assume it doesn't have a stock turbo, especially putting down 330whp. Besides, nowhere in his post did he mention a stock turbo. Or at least I don't believe he did.

keep in mind... a wrx is a 2.0 engine... vs an sti 2.5L.. better flowing heads. ect.... vf39 on a wrx would not make 300whp let alone 330.

So I was thinking I'd sell my IX and get an VIII that's a little beat up so that I could just have a fun DD that I can track, but is cheaper, and I wouldn't have to worry so much about it getting dinged up here in NYC.

But I was just offered an 04 WRX plus cash as a trade. And the WRX is putting down 330 whp, with STI suporting mods, and he explains it's flawless, tranny's solid, upgraded clutch, and only 50k.... so now I've really been giving it some thought.

I love evo's because they are, well EVO's.... they're a production track car, and in my opinion, the best machine on the road... but given I've only been out of school a year, and am starting to make money, but I'm in no way "comfortable" yet, so I'm wondering if maybe this wrx will do, or if I'll regret not getting an VIII.

Anyone have any good advice coming from a subie background? I've driven STI's, but never a regular wrx, so I'm not sure if I'd be ok with this car or not, here's the link;

IMHO if you are having a hard time paying for a fast car that you can't even enjoy then maybe you shouldn't have a fast car at all.

Its not the motor thats the problem, its the tranny. You can kiss that good bye soon most likely. The VIII is a much better car/platform. To be honest I would rather have an 8 the a 9 or 10. Thats just my personal prefernce though and yes I owned a 9 before my 8.

I can't stand the motor/plumbing on the WRX's. If left totally stock, then it wouldn't be an issue, but the boxer motor and stock non- fmic I don't like.

If your having payment issues try to refinance it, if you can't do that than trade for an Evo 8. The Evo. 8 might have some miles on it, but if it you get one that was well maintained then your set.

I have an Evo 8 with 130+ and going strong.

A vf39 and supporting mods (including sti injectors and intercooler) with a cobb tune is supposedly at 349hp (obviously crank hp). I'd have to assume that with a more agressive (ie better) tune, it's not out of the question to see those numbers. Besides, we don't know what kind of turbo is on there, just that it's most likely not stock. In either case, you make good points, and I'd ask for a dyno sheet for some proof of that supposed 330whp.

to be honest if you cant afford your evo then you should not have a fast car there is repairs involved i mean maybe stepping up to a high milage evo is better as it will be cheaper of course choice you have to make.

Here's the mod list:

blouch 16gevo3 turbo ported hotside
sti intercooler
grimmespeed uppipe with 38mm tial external wastegate
turbo xs manual boost controller
headers
invidia 3 inch downpipe
magnaflow 3 inch catback
acessport 2
protuned

Although now I'm thinking I'm just going to hang onto my IX, and wait for the right trade for an VIII to come along.... not in a big rush to sell anymore because I was hired this week at the place I've been interning at in Manhattan for 5 months, but now I'm making a steady income, I just feel like I don't need such a nice car here in NYC since I just own it for play anymore, and once in a while commute between NYC and Ohio.
