Instead of getting a cheaper VIII, would a 330 whp WRX suffice?

'04 WRX engine – makes good power down low, no problem climbing steep hills, has good passing power, flat in the mid rpm range, engine sound is strange.
'03 Evo engine – no torque down low, almost unable to drive in steep conditions, always important to be in the correct gear, great power above 3000 rpm.
'04 WRX transmission – wobbly shifter makes it easy to miss gears, otherwise easy to shift, makes strange drive train noises.
'03 Evo transmission - hard shifter action but less easy to miss gears, makes strange drive train noises.
'04 WRX clutch – smooth easy action.
'03 Evo clutch – more tendency to chatter.
'04 WRX suspension – way too soft with little roll bar control, comfortable ride around town and over RR tracks.
'03 Evo suspension – rides like a grain truck but could still use a little more roll bar.
'04 WRX brakes – great brakes.
'03 Evo brakes – great brakes.
'04 WRX steering – great steering with small turning circle, crummy steering wheel, likes to dart in the wind.
'03 Evo steering – great steering with a very large turning circle, comfortable steering wheel.
'04 WRX interior – small and cramped, door armrests so low as to be unusable, passenger and driver fight over center armrest, front seats are back breakers for anything but very short trips, very good sound system.
'03 Evo interior – great front seats, great room, but otherwise very plain, crummy sound system.

I spent a lot of money trying to get me 02 WRX to handle and feel like an Evo and never really got there. So I bought an Evo. As for WRX reliability my car ran strong for 140K miles with Stage 2 and ACT clutch no engine or transmission problems.

I think you'll find that you'll regret either the VIII or the WRX (moreso the WRX) coming from the IX. I can't tell you how many tanked motors/transmissions there are at my local shops...but it's a lot. But the bottom line is that you'll never get the same feel of an Evo with any other car. Sure you can spend $80K+ on a car that may come closer...but that really isn't an option for you.
I'm wondering if it's just an itch you're getting for a new car? Try doing a few tweaks to your IX and you'll be in love again (I'm speaking from experience).
If there are other things you can cut out to make the payment, I'd aim for that first. As others have mentioned above you can always try to re-fi the car.
I'm assuming he probably didn't buy it in 2006...so this really isn't the issue.

Like you said....keep it for a little hwile longer, you just got hired at you r interning job....let it ride out....don't jump into anything.
You'll find you never really wanted to get rid of your IX if you didn't have to.

Honestly because you love your Evo so much ...you don't drive it, completely understand your feelings. You shouldn't pay for something you really don't enjoy.... maybe in your circumstances I would do it. 330whp, if it does truely have that would be pretty fun and something you wouldn't be so worried about... maybe worth it if you get the right amount of cash for your IX.
Wish you could keep your IX clean and drive it.
