Well, Its definitely not a GTO like I remember it.. However I spent 2 years trying to import a Holden Monaro.. Basically the only difference in appearance (That I can tell) is the license plate pocket in the rear, and the Pontiac nose.. If I were to get a GTO, First thing I would do is import the Monero bumper fascia and swap off those UGLY wheels.

The GTO does get more power than the Holden Monero, and it has other good stuff too.. It does appear to be a bit slow for my tastes, but the potential is there.

Anyone else notice that it looks quite a bit like a larger version of the Cavalier??

yeah I thought the same thing... a cavalier (front)and a monte carlo (rear) mix is what I was thinking.

er edit...

as in rear back side panels.
kinda the extented look to it.
not the actual back side.

I've never been a fan of Pontiac front ends, but this is tolerable I guess. Not as attractive as the Australian version. They should have made it smaller, shorter and lighter as well as keep the Monaro styling. Quarter mile in the 13's is certainly respectable, but the the price tag is a little high. It might be a little plain, but plain is far better than putting gay body kits and crap all over it. I'm a grown man and don't want something that say's "ooh, look at me, I'm a race car driver". LOL

I think it looks quite a bit like the new Honda Accord Coupe. This should appeal to the people that always wanted more power in the Honda Accord but didn't want the quality or reliability. Haha!

The only thing I don't really like is the steering wheel. Otherwise it's straight with me. From the back it looks just like a Holden. Nevertheless, it's still no EVO.

Well, I can tell you from experience that the GTo looks pretty mean. I saw it at the Austin car show, and overall it is pretty menacing. The interior is one of the nicest and sportiest Gm has ever made. I will concede that the nose could stand to be more original, and the rear is bland. But, let's not take anything away from Gm here. the 5.3 zero-60 time is on 245 series tires. A lot of magazines speculate that with bigger rear tires, this is a sub 5 second car. Also, with 5.7 liters, it owuld be really easy to mod.

On a side note. I think it is stil terrible that GM for all of it investment and ability to poineer new technology can't get more than 350 hp out of 5.7 liters. Compare that to the new V-10 Porsche. It also has 5/7 liters, and generates 603 hp. I know that there are a lot of differences, and I am sure the porsche uses things like drysumping etc, but come on, 350 hp is impressive, but there could have been a lot more.

I still haven't figured out why these cars don't use veriable valve timing or lift. That would cost the manufactures less then the consumer owuld pay for the gas guzzler tax, and would yeild better fuel economy, and more power. Just a thought.....

that 350 is pretty underated...put it on a dyno and it'll put pretty much close to that to the wheels It's VERY easy to get a lot more hp out of that engine too. Plus the porsche costs over 400,000 more, imagine what a gto could do with another 400,000 added to it

Yeah the Porsche costs 400,000 more, but a 1.8 liter toyota engine can put out 180 hp Normally Aspirated. Also who can foget the older Honda S2000 engine, 2.0 liters, and 240 hp. I don't see how 350 hp can not be somewhat underachieving. I mean, at 351 CI, this engine has made no change over the old intrepretation of what a performance engine was, at 1 hp per Cubic Inch. This is the 21st century, and I think that a 5.7 liter engine should either be producing 400+ lb-ft of torque, or 400+ hp from the factory. Just my .02

Hey Guys,

I am from Australia and have actually had the previllage of driving the GTO which is higher performanced vehicle of the Australian Holden Monaro a very famous and popular car of its time. The car in Aus is no way near as powerfull as the GTO and i am upset with it and also the cost of the GEN 3 monaro the most powerful car is priced as a joke since it is made in AUS. Something like 90,000AUD alot more than the evo and the power to weight ratio factor would make me choose the evo any day. From that said Australia has only seen the evo 6 and has not seen the arrival of the 7 or 8 and i am hanging for it

y r u all complaining about the grill....look at almost EVERY pontiac, xcept the ugly *** sunfire...and they are all similar.its one of 'pontiacs' things, get over it, lol.

i used to drive a 95grandam, and it was pretty nice, it would no doubt crush my lancer, even if i had most bolt-ons done to my lancer. my grandam BARELY lost to a 95 tsi awd talon that had intake/exhaust. the grandam runs aroud a high 15 to low 16 stock(3.1 v6, pushin 155 HP) but my intake seal cracked and water got in my crankcase and i spun a few bearings and maybe threw a rod...oh well. lol (happened at 96k miles)

HOLY SHNIKES, i thought you guys were talking about mitsubishi's GTO, known as 3000 GT here in the US!!! i'm not much off a fan for american cars, so i don't know much if any about the american GTO! i hear more about mustangs, vettes, camaros, and even chargers, but not much on GTO's! i wonder which would win in an all-around race between these two, a top off the line american GTO rwd w/ its big engine(i really don't know how big it is ) versus the mitubishi's GTO VR4 awd turbocharged....hmmmm

I think before you guys make comments about quality, ect, you should do some reading on the car, there are alot of articles out there and they say the quality of this car is amazing and will raise the bar for all US automakers. There's nothing that bothers me more than some people that bash a car and know nothing about it. Someone said mid 13 1/4 mile isn't bad, but not for that price, look at the Evo, it's damn near the same price, and it runs damn near the same times. And the Evo's build quality doesn't sound too good at all. Don't get me wrong, I love the Evo, but with the complaints I hear on this board and others, I'd never buy one now. I guess I'll have to change my ID name now, LOL. And all this talk about, they should make more power with the 5.7L motor than that, STFU. Who the hell wants to pay out the a$$ for insurance on a $30,000 car? Not me. If you want your 500+ HP STOCK, go buy a $200,000 Ferrari and pay your $1000/month insurance.

Once again, Do your research.........................
