If I were buying now, it would be very hard for me to choose between the two, given that many dealers have wised up and are selling the STi for under MSRP. You can't go wrong with either car.

Just reading this thread makes me wanna go drive my Evo
I too think both are great cars and it comes down to personal preference. I envy those that have enough $$$ to buy both!

I drove an STI today, what a friggen joke!.. It doesn't hit anywhere as hard as my buddies stock EVO does. It was pretty mellow and ROUGH, that flat 4 sounds like a POS. The car didn't handle as well, it was softer and didn't feel on rails like the EVO does. It also has a big AIR SCOOP on the front which makes it feel as if you're driving a tractor when you're inside of it. Plus, the interior is got nothing going on..

EVO CITY HERE I COME.

EVO hits vicious, feels on rails, brakes great and rides good. I thought the STI was gonna feel insane compared to the EVO, but it had nothing over it.

This is really a lot more easy to decipher if you look at this whole subject with a open mind. First Everyone believes the EVO handles better then the STI because simply every magazine has said that it does. So everyone should just shutup about what they heard and give a real opinion. Honestly both cars have there etch's in what they do best. Evos can take turns with little or no understeer while the Subaru is kind of known for understeer under extreme conditions. But in any case they both handle both perfect enough in any REAL world condition and its all up to the driver since the people that own these cars aren't professional drivers, rather anything but that! And second both of these import motors transcend from over 10 years of experience. The 4G63 is no slouch when it comes to making potently fast "high boost" cars. As well as the EJ25 for the subaru, as it also is a motor that has plenty of background even though it has just been released in the in the STI it still is basically the EJ20 motor. Just punched out a extra .5 liters. The EVO comes with the twin scroll turbo that comes on when at WOT to 13 pounds but when it hits I believe 5000rpm spools up to 19 pounds. As many argue the 4G63 is already boosted as much as it can handle safely while still allowing it to last a long time in terms of mileage. Sure anyone can throw a MBC and boost 22 pounds like many have but as always your prone to problems. Now subaru on the other hand is a untapped resource because since the motor has been punched out a little more that allowed subaru to lower boost while still being able to pass emissions. The EJ25 only boost 14.5 pounds STOCK! easily allowing the motor for more boost and extra HP to be had and also being on the safe side of course. The only problem left is the transmissions for both. People say that the STI is weak or how the EVO is better. Put it this way the STI has the 6-speed transmission from japan and has been in the STI since its production. And the EVO just got a 5 speed slapped together which is not in the J-spec EVO. The EVO basically got a cheaper version just like the WRX did with is tranny both 5 speeds and both with faults. Maybe we will have to wait for 2004 for Mitsu to fix this and give us the real 6-speed and AYC! or we can all just say who cares and pick the car they like better personally because both are awesome in their own right.

the in the STI it still is basically the EJ20 motor.
keyword being 'basically' considering the new motor doesn't care to take to modding well, unlike its predacessor, and 2 the problems with the intercooler NOT working [intercooler is mounted on top, heat RISES, so the intercooler doesnt stay cool and is mainly pointless] and the intercooler not donig crap is causing problems in i believe cylinder 3 due to alot of heat. Not to mention the STis drive by wire. We didnt get AYC, as claimed by some japanese it sometiems 'dilutes' the driving experience, and if you read car of the year aticles[ automobile magazine, SCC] they both love the car for its fun factor when driving, AYC could have changed these reviewers opinions, but i do agree they should at least be options.

It is silly to buy an sti or evo for power.

The cars are designed as rally cars to make turns in any condition.

Well it seems pointless to say that the top-mount intercooler doesnt even work when ESX " Easy Street " fastest WRX in the world has a top mount! The point is the intercooler doesnt get hot just because its on top. And second the 3rd piston has had problems in the past because the turbo is right next to the block and as we all know turbos build up a lot of heat. Its not because of the intercooler!? and yeah i said having anything over 19 pounds of boost could have problems but past that it will tear down the motor faster and not last as long as it normally would.

Completely incorrect. The STi is taking well to mods. Research helps dispel unfounded rumors. Try it out sometime. There are no issues with the intercooler. If it sits for several hours, it will be warmer than if it hasn't. The issue is a completely moot point once the car gets moving, as the hot engine air does not simply idle there and rise into the intercooler. Air moves through the whole compartment. There are also no issues with cylinder three. Again, research would help you immensely. The drive-by-wire is not a problem either. I've driven the normal WRX (thousands of miles) and my own STi nearly 14,500 miles. Drive-by-wire has given me MUCH better response than the WRX without it. Once more, research would help you.

I only ask everyone else READ first. Don't buy into idiotic rumors that no one can find the cause of. Crap like this just irritates the hell out of me. I mean, come on, you aren't just mindless lemmings if you're considering either the EVO or STi, so don't buy the mindless rumors.
