Question What are your thoughts on the WRX?

I guys just wanted to know given the situation that you can afford a WRX ($25k), would you buy one or consider buying something else for this amount? If so what would you get?

Just wondering because although I like the WRX because it's a road beast, I just can't get over the headlights and the backside. Nevertheless 4WD and turbo you can't go wrong....

If I wasn't so poor I would've bought a blue WRX. If you're worried about the bug-eye headlights, you can switch em out with the the black projectors. Very mean looking. Not to mention uber-support from the tuning market. I don't think the back is that bad (aside from the stock wing which is easily replaceable). And you can't beat the bang for the buck car-wise.

I personally wouldn't buy a WRX because of the looks, but I'm sure it would perform awesome.

I used to like the GC8 body style 2.5RS, but after extensively driving them almost everyday (my best friend and gf own one), I have a new found lack of respect for that car and Subaru in general. Very poor craftsmanship, drivability, tranny, and not so much fun out of the box.

I'd get a Type-R (granted it would have to be used now) Seriously, it's a great street/track car, VERY reliable, great aftermarket, and the majority of other owners are very cool. It'll even save some money over a WRX.

My Type-R: 0 problems, even after extensive track abuse.
My gf 2.5RS: Tranny on it's way out, blown head gasket (amost cost us an engine!), rattles everywhere, easily scratched interior panels, stereo buttons don't all work.

Also keep in mind that this could just be her car, but my friends car also constantly grinds.

Right on, unless you slap on a turbo kit with a upgraded tranny OR a WRX engine tranny combo, it will be just another AWD car with no "real" power... Don't even go into the body paint problem

Mark,
I have been hearing the same from Subaru owners about the poor tranny (heard the response of shifting were poor compared to Honda/Acura). ALso, I heard negative comments on the seats/interior as well. I've searched for ITR's in the past, but there are only so many that are available for sale... Are you selling yours anytime soon?

What are your thoughts on the new ACura RSX Type S? Besides the issue w/ the fugly looking front (IMHO), would you consider it?

I love the Rex...I would've probably maimed someone to get one but noooo, there's those damn "laws". Regardless, I wouldn't be able to not only afford the Rex but the insurance probably would've been sky high. Plus, considering the isht that's happened to my car, my Rex could've been hurt a lot. They are truly awesome cars and are significantly better than a lot of machines out there (for the time being). The only thing about Subarus that worry me is their transmissions since I always hear about someone losing teeth off of a gear or something similar. Dunno, just what I've heard. Eh, needless to say is that I like 'em, and maybe when the STi comes out, they'll have made the tranny super beefy.

Claudius, the WRX here is 227bhp, pretty quick...

As for the ITR, I did a search in my area and they are friggin' overpricing that byatch like $2-3K over Kelley Blue Book prices!!! ALso, there's only like 2 or 3 here in the So. Cal. area for sale

Be lucky you could've at least found an ITR for sale. Blech. When I was looking for a used car I couldn't find a 2G DSM, the 98-99 Si, let alone an ITR. The upsetting thing of it all is I am guaranteed to see at least 2 of these cars in a given day...

For the money, the Rex is the best thing you're gonna get in the US for a while, but how about the newbies like the RX-8 and the 350Z/G35 coupe?

I dont like the Subaru looks either.
For your info the WRX does have Limited Slips, 2 of them, in the back and middle, STis has 3 of them including the front. Don't forget the WRX has 217hp in America only, part of the reason is they put 1 cat on the up pipe and 2 cats on the exhaust, which is something really easy to fix, you can be back at 250hp with minor mods.

Uh wrong, please go to the Subaru of AMerica website and you'll see 227hp for the WRX; if your still in disbelief then go to I-club and they'll really tell ya what's up

I agree though that the "227hp" can be easily increased to match the EVO simply with bolt on mods to its existing turbo.
