New M5
now that bmw uses similar engines for its base models as it does for its M models (with some different internals and certainly boost), i wonder how much money/effort it takes to go from 550i specs (which comes with the same 4.4L twin turbo engine, but 400hp) to the M5 specs?
if all it takes is minor internal mods and a tune, why pay $30k more for the M5? get the 550i, get a tune, change the exhaust tips, the badge on the trunk, and, voila

lol you went for the upscale version, that's why the M5 exists while the 550i can be ordered with just about the same seats, same brakes, same transmission and more or less similar bodykit as the the M5.
either way you twist it, bc of the "v10" it just differed more before, than it does now, from the regular 5 series.
