EVO Power

I don't have an EVO but I want to drop in an EVO 4G63 into my '92 Eclipse! I've heard that the EVO III engine has 300HP and around 300ft-lp torque. is this true? What is the horsepower and torque of the EVO I, II, III?
Thanks

True, but the 2G in a 1G swap (or EVO in a 1G) is a lot harder than a 1G in a 2G swap. Motor mounts on a 1G are actually on the motor instead of the tranny. Best option for this guy (if he is non-turbo, he didn't say) would be a motor out of a 1G turbo DSM.

Oh yeah I agree, I was just stating he may want to do it because he's not boosted.

swapping a 1g motor in a 2g is not that hard the tranny mount is the only diffrent one. The 1g block is alot better than a 2g block.

I'm not to worried about how hard it's going to be...I have a 1G Non-Turbo for the record...I thought that there was horsepower differences between the EVO I, II, III and the Eclipse

There is a pretty sizeable power gap between the DSM 4G63T and the ones in the various Evo generations, but that's mostly due to differences in boost pressure, especially in the older engines. The 4G63 in the newer Evos has hollow cams, lightweight parts, and probably has some head modifications, but the major difference is still the turbo and the boost levels. The engines from the 1Gs and the older Evos are the same engine, the Evo engine just comes "pre-modded" from a DSM standpoint. It's probably cheaper and easier to find a DSM 4G63, install it, and mod it to whatever level you want than to get an imported Evo engine and replace the parts that you paid more money for with the same aftermarket parts that you would have put on the DSM engine for close to the same results. Just my $.02

So is it true about what I read that the EVO III has around 300hp? It's not so much the fact that it's the same engine...i just personally want a JDM EVO engine dropped in my car

I thought the Normally aspirated Eclipses used the 420a (DOHC) motor that the Neon uses? There may be more to it than just motor mounts. HOWEVER hahn racecraft has a nice turbo kit for the N/A Eclipse in various stages. From some of their photos, the pictures on the eclipse look like the 4G63 motor, from what I remember the 420a's intake manifold is on the front of the motor, and the exhaust manifold is to the rear by the firewall.

Hope this info helps, a Swap may not be as cost effective only because of the dramatic difference in the electronics used, different motor mounts, transmission, ECU, etc..

I think that the 1Gs used a 4G63 NT, while the 2Gs used the 420a Neon motor.
