You can buy a Pajero Evolution for less than $20,000 USD
2 yrs ago I wanted to get one of these, but it was still in the $30K plus range. Now it can be had for less than 20k at the auction. I've been in one, that thing is fast for an SUV. It pulls hard!! If I had the extra cash i would get one. It comes w/ recaro seats, momo steering wheel. MIVEC V6 engine.
here's some pics.......

It doesnt have a turbo. Just has the MIVEC V6 engine producing 280hp. Its not full time all wheel drive. Just the normal 4x4 gearshift. But it looks MEAN in person!!! Its about 12 inches wider than a montero, not just coz of the kit.

I've driven one !
I drove a '97 Pajero Evolution a few months ago. My brother, who lives abroad, owns one.
The first thing you notice about this car when you drive it, is that the suspension is simply Extraordinary! This car can swallow large jumps like no other SUV i've ever driven. And that comparison includes vehicles like the X5, Land Cruiser and the H2. The Evo is also incredibly strong in deep mud and sand. We did some serious off-roading and never once got stuck. My friend's Land Cruiser which came along on our trip, got stuck twice in the same sand. Both vehicles had the same Geolander tires.
Off-roading aside, the Evo's on-road handling is on par with an X5. Part of the secret is the long travel suspension combined with relatively soft springs and very taut damping. The on-road capability is also helped by the really wide track (way wider than a Montero).
In 2WD mode, I clocked a 0-60 time of about 7.8 seconds using a brake-torque start, but straight-line acceleration is NOT what the Pajero Evo is about.
The Evo CAN be driven in 4WD mode on dry pavement. For this you need to select the 4H with OPEN center diff. One can switch between 2WD and 4WD modes at speeds up to 60 mph.
In my opinion, the Pajero Evos might just be the fastest "point-to-point" offroad production vehicles on the planet! I've heard that the newer, turbocharged version is even more capable than the one I drove!
