2011 Evolution MR - Columbus, Ohio

Wasn't planning on buying an Evolution, but got the chance to try out a 2010 Evolution MR and, after playing around on my favorite twisty roads for over an hour, I was hooked.

Local dealer had a fully loaded 2011 Evolution MR in Graphite Gray about to arrive (was a special order placed way back in February, but buyer backed out), so we worked out a good deal and I went for it. The 0.0% financing was also a nice bonus.

I am coming from an E46 M3 coupe and had intended on getting either a 2012 Audi S4 or a 2012 Mercedes C63 AMG, but after playing around with the Evo it was hard to pass up. Cost about $20K less than the S4 I wanted and about $28K less than the C63.

Anyway, looking forward to having some fun with the car and hopefully can meet a few other Evo owners in central Ohio.

Thanks! Car has been great thus far, but haven't had much of a chance to drive it as I am waiting for the clear bra to be installed.

On Monday (8/8/11) a company out of Cleveland (Block A Chip) will be driving down to my place to do the install. I am having them do a full hood, full front bumper, full front fenders, side mirrors, full side rockers, and full rear bumper. After that is on I can worry a little less.

So far I have only added wheel locks (a must) and removed the "Mitsubishi" and "Lancer" badges from the trunk lid. Next week I am having an auto-dimming rear view mirror w/homelink added and having my valentine 1 radar detector hardwired.

That is about all the additions/mods I have planned at the moment.

Removing the emblems from the trunk lid was actually very easy. Just take some fishing line and slowing work it back and forth between the emblem and the car. The fishing line will separate the emblem from its sticking backing. Once the emblem is off, simply peel the sticking residue off. You may have to use a little goo-gone to remove any remaining residue. Wash off the goo-gone with some water and you are good to go. Took me about 15 minutes for each emblem and that was only because I was going very slowly/carefully (it being a new car and all).

The place doing my clear bra is called Block-A-Chip (www.blockachip.com). They are located in Cleveland, but do provide mobile services to Ohio, eastern Indiana, and western Pennsylvania. They only charge a small trip fee (for me it was $60) to cover gas, etc. For me it was worth it so I didn't have to drive 2 hours up to them and risk getting a stone chip before I could even get the clear bra on. They came highly recommended and have done clear bra installs on a lot of high end cars (including a Bugatti Veyron). I will post my thoughts on the clear bra install once it is completed on Monday (8/8/11).

Got the clear bra installed yesterday by Block A Chip (www.blockachip.com) and it looks great. I had full hood, full front bumper, full fenders, side mirrors, full rockers, partial rear door (part that bumps out in front of rear wheels), and partial rear bumper done. Hood is Venture Shield and the rest is 3M. It took the guy about 8 hours to do the install and it looks perfect. He spent about 2 hours or so just on the hood to make sure everything looked good. They are a mobile service, so they can come to you. If you live in Ohio, western Pennsylvania, or eastern Indiana and want a clear bra, I highly recommend Block A Chip. Not the cheapest, but if you want it done right give them a call.

Great choice, great color and a really nice find on block a chip. Anyways I'm from the Akron area but its always nice to see another evo owner from Ohio on here. If you can make the drive up to Norwalk for the DSM shoot out coming up.

If you ever plan a meeting for Evo owners in Columbus, please send me a PM. It would be nice to meet some other owners.

Had the auto-dimming/homelink rear view mirror installed today and had my Valentine 1 radar detector hardwired. Work was done by Auto Additions in Westerville. Very quick and top notch work.

Still don't understand why the MR Touring w/navigation comes standard with every bit of technology imaginable, except homelink. Oh well, at least it has it now.
