We'll see but I suspect you'll be wrong. The Abarth 500 is already a very popular sporty model over in Europe so there's already an aftermarket for it. The US' allocation of 3,000 Abarth 500s sold out in less than a month. We'll see how the 2013 model does when it hits the market in the next few months.

The European Abarth uses a completely different engine. I doubt the tuning experience done on the Euro Abarth will translate over here. The US Abarth uses the multi air engine with a turbo.

That said the Marelli engine package seems to be good for around 40 HP, which isn't bad for a car which starts with 160 to begin with:

Just when I had become sufficiently impressed with the Abarth at the very attractive price point of $22,500, now Fiat announces a 500T, which is basically the 500 Sport model with the addition of a detuned version of the Abarth's engine. And, with a sticker price of $19,500.

Interesting indeed.

It seems kinda overpriced for the amount of car you get, but to each their own. It will be interesting to see what the production Dart SRT-4 will actually be equipped with.
