Evo vs Chevelle

Well my friend has a 66 chevelle pushing around 400 hp. While I know id rip him through some corners, anyone know the capabilities of this thing on the straits? He wants to race on the streets, which i dont; so i offered to take it to a track. Hes cocky as hell so i dont really know what his car could do, which is why im asking you guys. Thanks

If you're stock and on the east coast running 93 octane your car with a good launch is capable of low 13 sec times. In the 1/4 mile unless he's running drag radials or slicks hes still dragging more weight with less grip. A 400hp Chevelle with dead gearing and street fare rubber could run 14s or high 13s. A lot depends on his overall setup, any idea what rear end gears he has?

i would sure hope a 400hp chevelle would run better than low 14's...
my chevelle could launch pretty damn well, but it is an automatic with 4.11 gears, 400-425 horses, and it ran mid 12's...so it would probably beat you in the straights..
after i rebuild my engine up i'm hopin to be in the 11's

No, sorry i have no idea. He just has a "350 block" (im assuming 350 horses) with a manual shifter. Its loud, but doesnt look that fast. I just want to prove him wrong for calling my baby a rice rocket.

400hp, lugging around 3800lbs with gears like 2.73s could easily run in the low 14 high 13 sec range. Driver is key in this and we are assuming perfect conditions. Ofcourse with 4.11s its a totally dif game which I tried to make clear in my first post.

I believe the 350 is how big the motor is, in cubic inches.

Rear end gears, whether hes using slicks or drag radials, whether he has a stall converter, also whether or not it idles smoothly... that says a lot. Some of those car guys have that silly habit of leaving details out, like a nitrous bottle in the drunk.

350 is cubic inches..and in 1966...i believe it either had 325 or 350 horses...stock
my 396 SS with 450 horses ran low 12's-mid 12's on conditions..and i as well have 4.11 gears...so if your stock..i'd say he should win in straights hands down

So that would basically take the evo in the straights?

He may beat you on the strip, you can get a lot of power out of those engines inexpensively. It's a drag car. If he's too ignorant to respect your car for what it is I wouldent give him a run anyway.

i guess it's hard for imports to get respect from muscle car guys...i used to be the same way..makin fun of all the hondas and there lil fart can exhausts..but the evo deserves respect from anyone...and i wouldn't even worry about your friend..his chevelle may be faster but he sacrifices a lot more in conveniences than you do...
