mazdaspeed miata
give me a break you Turbo/supercharge a car and it adds only 25% more power, sound like you just put fancy synthetic oil in it. every Turbo/supercharger setup i have ever seen adds 50% or better hp. The STI WRX jump from 225 to 300. try the simple ATI procharger for the LS1 200hp gain. thats 75%, even the cobra went form 300 to 400hp plus and thats tuned down. people who buy the Mazada ought go out and run down Mazada EXecutives.
I laughed for 20 min when i saw this , the torque gain was even pathetic. do these people have engineers working for them or abunch of retired mechanics. just give them a 35hp shot of nitrous and you could toast every one these for 500.00. Sorry I like the miata i just cannot believe a company can destroy a car so fast. did all the new owners check the trunck for the extra HP they lost.

quick note. the MSM is turbo'd, not supered.
Yes, it is a pathetic power gain, but do you think mazda wants the miata out performing the RX-8? marketing has a lot to do with the final product of a company, and mazda wants to keep RX-8 sales climbing.
Also, one last thing. What Umiami listed is all a built turbo motor needs. Low compression pistons and oil squirters are about all a factory turbo motor needs. Car manufacturers hardly ever put things in like metal headgaskets or head studs in their cars. Metal headgaskets are more likely to leak where as conventional headgaskets won't, but they run the risk of blowing at higher boost. That's also why you see stock TC's running low boost, like 7-8 pounds (I consider the evo to be the expception on stock boost) Also, when a company designs a turbo engine, they will put in forged materials. I can't even think of a single factory turbo motor that doesn't have forged internals.

Its actually a base of $25,500 + $520 Dest = $26,020k + $700 touring pack which includes leather so figure right around $27k.

go figure....for 27k i could get a used evo, or a low price s2k and modify it..
27K you could own a new EVO. i do understand total package but to me why add the weight and increased parts and durability issues for such a little gain. I bet you a million dollars some one has already done slight mods with head work and cams and intake and got the 25% they got with the addition of a turbocharger add all the added wieght ,electronics and now heat and durabilty issues. just my thoughts , would have been easier just to punch the motor out .5 CC and add some nice HIPO goods like all the racers who drive the cars do.
i agree with most of everyones posts and if i were a chick or a short skinny dude with spikey hair and oakley sunglasses, i could see myself driving a mazdaspeed miata... The tuning options for the car should be strong, and it would be great for autoX and fun at the track --but my goofy *** daily driving it would make me look like one of those clowns driving the little cars in the circus. I will def. have my sis. take a look at the new speed, or a current gen bodystyle of the miata. (And take it around for cruises every once in a while *shhhhhhhh*)

The Clunk - sway bar bushings were sticky and made a clunk sound.....they put out a TSB and replaced them for everyone.
The Hesitation - the stock fuel maps in the ECU had a hesitation between 3-4k RPM's that sucked pretty bad. They did a TSB on this too and an ECU flash fixed that. (a side note....the ECU is the only FORD part in that car.....SHOCK!!!)
these are pretty minor though IMHO....I still love the car and it's solid as a rock.....still not a single creak or rattle even with the suspension that's like a rock. I love it.

hmmm, my 1988 mitsu galant sigma gives roughly 170hp so what's special about it?
