mazdaspeed miata
just got my latest issue of turbo.. whats on the first page... the new TURBOCHARGED mazdaspeed miata.....
some of the highlights:
ball bearing turbocharger, helping to generate 25% more hp and ##% more tq for a better power to rate ratio than the BMW z4 2.5
6 speed short throw tranny with shot peened gears for improved durability
heavy duty clutch and pressure plate
tuned and lowered suspension including stiffer springs, retuned gas filled BILSTEIN shocks and thicker front sway bar.
air to air intercooler
17 inch racing harts
toyo proxes r28 205/40/r17 tires
torque-sensing limited slip diff
quick-ration steering rack
4 wheel disc with abs
body color air dam with rear spoiler.
looks pretty good... even thought the ic is on the small side.... anyone else see this yet?

In my opinion 178 HP is barely adequate in todays market if they really wanted to make a splash it should have been 200+HP.
Why would you buy a 178hp Miata over a 240HP Honda S2000 ?

well i'm figuring cuz its lightweight so the 178hp can justify it. anyone have the weight on this baby. i would assume the power to weight ratio would be kick butt on this mazda speed. i applaud mazda for producing fun cars to drive.
Cost, for one thing.. also by all accounts it looks as if this engine has a lot of usable power and isn't as peaky as the s2k. Finally, it's a miata.. once you drive one you'll understand.. it's just enough car to get around/have fun in..

Before I purchased my S2000 which was before the Evo I had driven several MY99+ Miata's include 2 supercharged models that where supposed to be rated @180HP and I can tell you their was NO comparison to the S2000. I know everyone bashes the power delivery of the S2000 because of its peekiness but truthfully It is an awesome powerplant that you learn to use. In fact their are facets of its power delivery that are really much better than a STOCK Evo. Smoothness, progressive power buildup and a wicked top end are not to be dismissed.
I remember looking at the 10th AE Miata in 1999 ... the MSRP was something like $29k. I bet the Mazdaspeed Miata will be close to that price and because it is a brand new model the real street price will be close to sticker. I believe you can buy a brand new 2004 S2000 for about 2k - 3k off MSRP which puts it in the same price ballpark as the Miata.
I also bet that the Miata WEIGHS More than the S2000 .... so why would you buy the Miata over the S2000 if if its close in price and the power to weight ratios favors the S2000 by alot.
Also someone mentioned the tunability of a turbo. I believe the t25 unit in the Miata is really small and is operating at it peak efficiency allready.
