Yes, im familiar with those two problems. Both were fixed right away with no problem from mazda. Car feels great. I still dont understand why that would make it a nightmare. Every new car that comes out, or performance car has some sort of problem. I wouldnt say the sti was a nightmare because it had detonation problems when it came out, nor would I say the evo was a nightmare because of rust issues, or paint chippage, or bubbling of the carbon fiber spoiler. All those things are just small kinks that eventually get worked out.

 

To some a turbo car with < 200hp is bad. That's my guess why he refers to it as a nightmare?

 

now your talking. hell my yamaha R1 has more power than the Miata and its even a smaller engine not turbo charges. its got to make all the miata owners just want to shoot themselfs for sticking with Mazda.

Well, since the R1 redlines in the 13k range, I'd guess that the miata kills it in torque. Don't get me wrong, I love my fzr600, but how 'bout apples to apples?

 

well if you compare bikes to cars its never apples to apples. i am just giving wonderful examples of engines that are capable of making 170 hp that are far from being as big or turbo charged. i can list for you if you like more than 10 4 cyl cars that make more than 170 hp and they dont have turbo or superchargers. its just a bigger kick in the groin that even smaller motors can do it and yet mazda throws out the wonder huge ad. now with turbocharger and 25% more power, yeah total 178. man talk about let down.

 

I've seen Miata's with 140hp dust cars with twice the HP......it's not all HP....it's power to weight ratio and handling.....the Miata has both. 170+ hp is nothing to sneeze at. I think Mazda makes great cars.

 

Well loj68 , i am not knocking the car, the Miata is a great handling car, but to say it dusted cars with twice the HP is well A LOAD OF CRAP. it may beat my wifes SUV that has twice the HP . but well lets say how about THE EVO. not even twice the HP and you will be waddling home. I am sorry you are missing my point. Miata handles great and drives well and has moderate performance , but to all the sports car fans out there we were hoping the addition of a turbo would really put this car up on the TOP. I have always like the car and wanted to get one just for fun factor but after driving it and always finding something that had almost as much handling and more ponies kept me away. last time the litttle BMW M roadster stole me away. it was used so dont say twice the price only like 10,000 more. used vettes now are very available at low 20,000s with gobs of power and great handling. i just dont understand why Mazda didnt give the owners what they deserve. MORE power. i see you sig show you own one. i hope it continues to be a great car. I also hope there are alot of cheap mods to really get your boost up like the evo. some owners were only getting 16 lb of boost and with a MBC you can get your full 19 and free ponies. I would like to see more of the Sport compact cars coming up in the world. So go out and enjoy i will and maybe one day i will get to snag a little suped up miata.

 

AHMEN ... like I said days ago imagine if MAZDA did a very reasonable and attainable 220HP version right out of the box where the car did 0to60 in under 6seconds 1/4 mile 14.0 @ 98mph ... now where talking about some decent numbers.

 

No, not a load of crap. Go check out an Auto-X race some time and you'll see what I mean. I routinely see Miata's beat the times of Vettes, Porsches, and the like.....and yes, they have twice the HP and then some.



The turbo DOES put the Miata up there.......this is not a sports car segment that will have big HP numbers....never has and never will. Check the HP ratings of little roadsters and you'll find the majority are under 200hp......(Elise, MR2 Sypder, Miata, Triumphs, MG's, Healy's, etc.). The new turbo brings the Miata up near the top of that heap.

 

again you missed the point, i said the car had performance, it will also out brake most of those cars but we are not AUTOX in town, around the cruise location, from stop light to stoplight. you limit yourself to much, how about the S2000, M roadster , any of the Ferarri coupes , Porsche boxter S, Aston Martin, MB sports coupes, yes the old cheap sportscars didnt make much , thats why they are so limited when you race them. We are saying that if Mazda would have given the NEW MIATA some cohonies it would be in the upper catagory not only on the autoX but as an everyday sports car you would love to drive around and when some little 4cyl or even other 6 cyl came around you could also show him how quick and Agile the car could be instead of saying. Oh Yeah meet me next week as the Autox meet and i will show you something.

well yeah, the Miata is a cheap sports car......if you put more goodies to make it so much faster it ceases to be that....the cars you mentioned are all between $33k-$150k. I've been going to Auto-X's for years and over those years I've seen Miata's here and there wipe up about every car there is at one time or another.....but I'd be glad to watch you run.....there's a little MR2 Spyder that runs events around here that put it to STI's, 911's, Z06's, and WRX's all last season......

 

I forgot the most famous Roadster of all , The Shelby Cobra. the best idea ever , lightweight car, lots of HP, the 289 put out over 250hp, and the real beast 427 , see what great things can be acheived it you have the HP with your light and nimble car. and this was cheap. 3500.00 for the 289 and 6500.00 for the 427.

 

Sports cars and muscle cars are two different things. Some people don't know the difference.
The Miata is a quintessential sports car. 178hp is significant and it'll be quite enough to handle for 90% of drivers. Mazda isn't going to waste the money building the car with 200+hp for the remaining 10%. Those enthusiasts can upgrade it themselves.
