The Hallowed Walls of Four Wheel History

As enthusiasts, we always want to know more about the latest and greatest supercar or we want to look back at classics like the Ferrari 250 GTO or the Shelby Cobra 427. But sometimes we forget about all the cars in the middle that get lost along the way. Some may be odd, quirky, or complete piles, but each one has contributed to the hobby (i.e., life) we live.

Here's a list of ten museums that should appeal to all flavors of automobile connoisseur. I want to give a special shout to a local guy who comes in at Number 6. If you're ever in Nashville, TN, make time to stop at the Lane Motor Museum and talk with Jeff Lane. He's one heck of a guy and he's got some really cool stuff to look at in his collection.

The Ten Best Car Museums On The Planet

Knowing about cars is one thing, seeing them in the flesh is another. If you want to get as close to rare and extremely significant cars as possible, these ten places are the best. We should also note that, given how many times we've singled out the lovely Petersen Collection in LA, we left it off this list. But also go there if you have a chance.

10.) Donington Grand Prix Collection, England
9.) The Saab Museum, Sweden
8.) The Simeone Museum in Philadelphia
7.) The Nissan Heritage Museum
6.) The Lane Motor Museum In Tennessee
5.) The Mullin Museum in California
4.) The Audi Museum in Germany
3.) The Porsche Museum in Germany
2.) The Mercedes Museum in Germany
1.) Cité de l'Atomobile in France

I'd say the Corvette museum once mother nature is done renovating. Zing!

I'd really like to see this list broken down into Europe, US, and maybe one for Asia as well. Many good museums in US.

I have been to the Simeone in Philly twice. Definitely worth the time, and it's only an hour from me. I still have not been to one of their drive events, where they take a collection of cars out back of the museum and parade them around. Pretty cool that all their cars get some exercise every now and then.
