WRX all the way!!! I had one before my EVO there awsome cars and the performance parts are cheaper. And look at it this way the WRX will still be faster if you turbo the LANCER and you dont want torqe steer. And the WRX s motor is a turbo built motor. It will take some boost. The LANCERS motor ant. You would have to build the motor right to get to take some boost and it'll cost around 7grand to fully build a motor right. On you can spent the same amount on the WRX and kill everything.

My 2 cents. Im stilla guy.

Buy a WRX. I had one before my Evo and they are a ton of fun. All wheel drive is awesome. They are very reliable cars and lots of mods are available. Buy one and you'll never regret it. Plus after driving a WRX for awhile you will have to get an Evo!

i feel you on this one man. i been saving my money since last summer so i can get a wrx. still debating whether i should just trade in for ease or try to sell privately my lancer. but i'd definately go for the wrx. with just a few thousand on the engine, you can have one hell of a ride. i can't wait til i go for mine in a few months..

i had this same decision to myself too. i was really considering turboing my lancer and with enough money be a pretty fast car. or i can dish out some more money and get awd turbo. no contest

WRX is a great car in every way. I waffled back and forth between buying and modding a WRX or just getting the EVO. Of course one test drive in the Evo settled that! But still, if you're looking in the lower $$$ range... definitely the WRX. No question.

Ok my mind is made up, I'm going to the dealership today to sell my soul for a WRX - and yes I agree, the torque steer of FWD does suck along with many other things. I personally also prefer the mitsu name but as everyone knows, there's no EVO available here where I live and the only reason I can even afford to look at the Subaru is because it's $10,000 cheaper than a new '04. ( I also prefer the "bug eye" look better than the '04's)

What's the invoice on a wrx in $CDN? You're getting it for below that, right? My girlfriend got her 2003 wrx last june for right around $20k USD which seemed like a pretty good deal at the time. So, by now you should get a really good deal (BTW, the wrx is certianly a fun car).

Yeah, go with the rex. Their pretty reliable cars with a lot of after market support. I'm still kicking myself in the rear end for passing up a deal on a slightly modded silver 02 rex several months ago. You wont be disappointed.

It looks like you've decided on the WRX. Good choice. So here is some more encouragement.

I've owned rear wheel drive rotary cars, front wheel drive naturally aspirated Hondas, and currently own an EVO. My friend owns an '02 WRX and I like both cars. He's laid down over 300 horse power to the wheels thus far. This, as you probably know, would never be possible with a turbo OZ. If you did a turbo, you might get 200hp, maybe.

Plus, reliability of the car would decrease dramatically...

Front-wheel drive can't deal with the power you're looking for...

The car would still not be that fast with only 200hp...

Plus, you would need bigger brakes and better suspension...

And the OZ is structurally not as strong as the WRX and EVO.

It looks like you're on the right path, and you said money is a factor. The turbo OZ would hurt your pockets even more in the future. This absolutely is the best and only option. Go to the dealer and get a WRX, and you'll totally rock!!

Let us know how you did at the dealer.

Update: Worked out payments (finance), insurance, trade, and I have a deposit. Still deciding though weather or not I can swing $700/month car payments (as opposed to $314.20 for my Lancer). It's a big jump and I'm really not sure weather or not I want to commit to that. So things should be finalized (one way or the other) within this week -.....

I'm curious... how many months are you financing? That sounds like 36 months. Can you go 48 or 60?
