Should I get a WRX?
No on the RS cause I think your like me and like power windows and door locks. plus you could get amoon roof for very little extra money. I have been a very die hard fan of the Evo for at least 3 years now, and I am thinking of jumping ship because of the great value 21k for a new rex and I like the new cleaner look of the '04. so I have given up my dream of owning a EVO and I can't deal with the bare minimum on creature comforts. the base lancer comes with more than the RS.
Funny, I didn't seem to see STi as one of his choices. I must've missed it. Anyway, just go with what you want. Basing a car choice on others opinions is bad, especially on a big one such as this. I personally would get the WRX. At least you won't have to go through all the work and money of putting a turbo. It is like asking should I get a WRX, or turbo the Impreza RS? If you want the turbo, get the WRX.
I would hazard a guess that the reason he went for the WRX instead of EVO or STI is because;
1- The EVO is not available in Canada in ANY form
2- Insurance on the STI is ridiculous up here (more than double what you would pay for a WRX, a lot of people have had to sell their new STI's when they realized this)
3-He's getting this used WRX for HALF what an STI costs here
He's made a really good choice. A WRX would be my second choice, after the EVO. I love the modding potential.

I agree with all the above statements that the Lancer OZ can't handle the power of turbo nor will it be as capable as the factory turboed WRX.
Your options are a turbo SOHC or a turbo DOHC...the answer should be pretty cut and dry off that.
As far as the guy that mentioned the SRT-4, you don't want that. That car will depreciate so rapidly it's not even funny. In 3 years or 36,000 what'll it be worth? I guess you'd be more worried about whether it's running or not...
I own a WRX and love it. I'm gonna buy an Evo too later on when I pay my WRX off. Not selling the WRX. Love the car to death. It's fast and it can handle a ton of power.

What's the invoice on a wrx in $CDN? You're getting it for below that, right? My girlfriend got her 2003 wrx last june for right around $20k USD which seemed like a pretty good deal at the time. So, by now you should get a really good deal (BTW, the wrx is certianly a fun car).

I was going to ask that because there's no way in hell she got a new 2003 sedan for $20K.
I bought my 2003 sedan brand new and at invoice, which is $21,800. Definitely no way in hell you can get $1800 less than invoice. Subaru doesn't rebate the Impreza more than $750.
