Rattle your brain with this one

Hey guys I was just doing some of my usual diabolical thinking lol and got thinking about NA 4g63 engines.

Would it be possible to run MIVEC on an NA 4G63? Has anyone ever tried going the high comp na route before? I realize the bang for buck isn't there, but for the sake of argument would it be effective?

Imagine a world where the streets are filled with NA 2.0L mivec engines lol. Could it compete with the infamous VTEC? Maybe people would be cracking mivec instead haha

The 4g63 head doesn't have a particularly good VE, so the power numbers would not be impressive.

Well even if it was 200hp, I guess the challenge would be how efficiently it makes that hp

Would be nowhere near 200 hp. English did a mild NA build sometime ago. I can't recall the details, but my recollection is it peaked at about 125 whp.

That low huh. Well I'm assuming it was non mivec. So by my rough guess if someone figured out a way of getting mivec NA system to work, probably looking at 175hp

I don't mean to be that guy but I'm just wondering...why? I guess this is more for sake of discussion but why would one even be inclined to attempt such a thing?

Mivec only advances and retards cam timing. i-VTEC has an aggressive cam lobe as well. Mitsubishi shines with boosted engines, not NA.

Well they have a 1.8L mivec engine and the infamous v6 mivec in the FTO, both engines perform amazing, I was just curious if they ever did it with the 4g63, but I suppose that engine was engineered to take boost right from the get go
