Porsche V8 vs C6 vs Kit
Hi All
Have been an X owner for 94,000 miles and a Bug eye WRX owner for 5 years before that.
Am considering doing a Porsche V8 conversion (ie 996), get a C6, or maybe a Ford GT kit or something similar (Ultima etc).
1) Porsche V8 conversion: Not hard to do, lots of arts and kits, and not ver expensive considering other alternatives.
2) C6: Great performing car, wont really need to do much to it, but a little boring.
3) Kit Ultima of Ford GT 40: High performance but complicated, takes years of work, high project failure rate. (not sure if I want to spend 4-5 years in a garage wrenching anymore).
Just curious if anyone here has done anything like this and might have any wisdom or lessons learned to share.
Im leaning towards a Porsche V8 conversion, keeping it stock looking, but try to emulate what Ruf does in spirit.
This wouldn't be for track events. Rather for road trips and weekends, maybe some commuting-
Thanks

LS1-7 all aluminum engine is about 55 lb lighter than boxer 6 engine. Theres a wealth of info on this topic and many documented conversions.
But thats not the purpose of this thread.
If you've gone down this path or are very familiar with a like project please share....

1. C6

2. Porsche LS swap.
3. Kit car (and even then I'd go for a Factory Five GTM, but that's just me).
If you want a Grand Tourer for weekends that doesn't bore you, slapping aftermarket parts on a C6 is probably the least nightmare-inducing scenario.
You should also consider a V8 Rx7. Lots of options here for combining a great engine with a great chassis. Here is just one of many examples https://www.hinsonsupercars.com/s-1-...-fd-93-99.aspx

I second, from "keeping value", Porsche 996 GT3 top choice.
Value for $, 996 twin turbo is awesome. Reflash and its fantastic DD with power and handling.
The C6 Z06 is a super car,
that 996 LSX will need approach.
its pointless to compare them. 996 V8 is a "acquired taste" that few have...its not easy to sell, actually probably horribly difficult and at a low price.
Recently 1 was for sale on Pelican Parts, and it may have sold...after many months..maybe.
GT40 Kit Car, proper car will cost you >$100K, so not really the same thing.
I think you already chose, C6 Z06...its sorted super car. Align it properly, ensure proper tires and brake pads are on, and off you go DD plus track-terror.
GM SCCA T1 race spec parts are dirt cheap, ultra-reliable, so any upgrade is affordable...within reason. But it needs nothing, only driver.
