Magazin driver crashes the new camaro
Yeah, my fanboyism came out there a bit . I just never really liked the Camaro -especially in that Michael Bay film. Great marketing ploy, but I thought, that generation is just ugly as sin and will never capture the true spirit of yester Camaro's. While the Z28 is being represented well in previous gen spec., I can't help but think its more of a poser(base, SS trims) with its gimicky slanted windows-I'm saying is more show then go.

That being said, the Z28 is the only Camaro I've even sat in... And honestly the only trim I'd wanna own out of this gen
Good to see all the world class drivers on EvoM in force...
Rally drivers never botch a turn, amirite?
Belle Isle doesn't have runoffs. You screw up, you're in a wall.
Let me guess, you never screw up.
Going captain hero and trying to drift the car out of a turn probably ends worse in that case.
I'm not sure he's really a novice. Certainly he's not Chris Harris or even Jeremy Clarkson, but he's not a beat writer who's never in a car.
The camera in your face does change things.
You think the C&D/MT/R&T writers have never stuffed a car?

My dad's camaro ZL-1 does the same ****. A stab of the brakes unsettles the car and makes it rotate nicely. Then you pick up the throttle once the back end starts coming around, countersteer, and throttle out.
As opposed to panicking and letting the car drive into the wall...lol

He reacted the same exact way any "novice" driver reacts in an understeer situation and is the exact opposite thing as to what's needed.
Typical mindset "hmmm car is understeering I better turn the wheel more" In reality the front tires are out of grip so your options are to unwind the wheel some, let off the gas to help settle the front end or a touch of brake sorta like trail braking to help plant the front.
The easiest and safest option IMO is a combination of unwinding the wheel and letting off the gas and that'll typically do it for you but brakes help as well just as long as you are conscious of what's going on and are prepared for the backend to come around.

I didn't say I never screw up, however, I've never put a car into a wall. Worst I've had was 2 wheels off, and had the car spin out on me, kept it on track though..

Go to 1:15, that's the turn he biffs it on. Tell me where you're going to put your two tires off and keep it on the track.
I never said anything that related to my skill level vs the guy in the video. What I commented on was merely my observations from watching the video. I saw understeer followed up by turning the wheel more...I also never said to go captain drifttown but rather provide some insight as to what would have been a preferred method to dial back the understeer.

Your suggestion for unwinding and breaking is absolutely the right thing to do... except in this instance, instead of biffing the front quarter panel, you would have gone head on into a wall. The other guy who suggested stabbing the brakes and throttling thru the turn would have put the rear quarter panel, if not the whole driver side, into the wall. There just isn't room there to save the car in that instance.
He went too fast into the turn. That's it. It's a mistake many of us have made, and if we didn't stuff our car, it's because we were at a better track than Belle Isle.
