Bought salvage, now it needs inspection

Hi, I live in CT. I purchased a salvaged evo 9 RS from Florida. The title itself had no information and hasn't been stamped as a salvage, i registered the car after having emissions done (must do emissions to register an out of state car) the car registered fine and I was handed plates.

Weeks later I get a letter in the mail saying my title is a salvage and it requires inspection, i have no receipts or pictures of the car being rebuilt because I don't even know what happened to it.

I'm at a loss as to what to do right now. I just bought this car and now I have 15 days to do my inspection or I will not receive a title. Which makes 0 sense being that the previous owner had the title..

The previous owner had the car for 3 years and the guy is very trust worthy and he had no idea the car was a salvage. The title was listed clean on the actual title itself. (the piece of paper)

Can someone please help me out here and tell me what I need to do? Thanks.

I've never heard of needing pictures of when the car was rebuilt. Here in Maryland for you to pass inspection you just have to take it to the state police inspection and then you go to get your tags. I don't know what the process would be like there.

Yeah that's odd. My father used to flip salvaged cars. What's the exact wording in the letter you received?

That's weird. My car was salvage in 2008. Ever since their was 2 owners before me and became a washed title as it was salvaged in a different state and registered to a another state which makes it a "clean washed title" the two previous owners had the title clean and never had a problem or got a letter in the mail... My advice is to contact someone professional to have the car inspected... Reason I only bought a salvage title is because I work at a body shop and can provide any proof that car is drive able and fixed and that their isn't major damage to it

I have no idea how to multi quote so I'm answering everyone in this.

I ripped this car down and every vin is the same, there is no welding, no frame damage, a new front bumper and that's it. I couldn't tell anything else.

This car is a washed title from Florida, the guy is a member on here and i trust him fully, he owned the car for 3 years and carfax says he bought the car himself in florida, this "wash" appeared to of happened a few owners ago.

I was able to register the car because the title had nothing on it about it being salvaged, I'm wondering what happens if I just ignore this. Maybe just don't get a title? I would be fine with that because i don't intend on selling this car, if anything ill part it.

no i don't care about my address but thank you, i have plenty of security

Ok you need to go to the proper DMV office for a different inspection. It's not like a regular Inspection. Basically they're trying to see if the car was in a chop shop.

Here in Missouri we have to have a State Trooper inspection. Then the regular emissions and inspection for salvaged cars.

Gotcha. May sound dumb but simple things like no rear seat, replaced the steering wheel with another stock one and no cat.. will they be a problem?

Yes. The car has to be there as a whole without any parts missing. It's like passing a safety inspection

Even though its a rebuilt title? I figured I wouldn't have to go through this process. Got the letter 2 days ago so that 15 days is really like 6 and my cars in the shop, also now don't have time to fix anything. incredible.

Usually that's how it is here in MD, but you should call your DMV and ask to make sure that you don't need any interior parts. I've passed the state inspection without having a driver airbag but I had the case on there to make it look like I had one and the seatbelts were locked. They didn't check all that

Well lets say you take it there and fail inspection. You'd have another 60days to correct the violations, take it back for reinspection. And after that 60days you'd have to pay for another inspection.

I have harnesses (schroth rallye4) the ones that are "street legal" with the back seats ripped out, tints too dark so those would have to go. What do you think about coilovers and no cat?

Now if I fail the inspection, will I be able to drive my car home from the facility and be able to drive it during those 60 days? or am i up a creek without a paddle there

Really that depends on your state. Here in my county of Missouri we have safety and emissions. if you fail safety you can't legally drive that vehicle on the main roads this is called roadworthiness. You can pass safety and fail emissions and then drive it around to get your emissions corrected. you can drive it off the "inspection lot". you drove it there, it can make it back home. if they see that the car is so unworthy to drive they'll stop you from driving it home. like if you have a rust bucket. ?

But the car still doesn't have legal plates, you may get pulled over. Happens all the time, just show your documents to the officer and you shouldn't have a problem, unless he's an ***. then you show them to a judge at the court date or before if you can.

think you fail emissions without a cat. you might get away with a high flow cat or resonated test pipe.

Alright so here's the deal.. the car is rebuilt.

I purchased it from Florida and the car left washington rebuilt, the title never got transferred over.

I contacted my DMV and they told me I need proof from Washington or Florida that this title is actually rebuilt.

It appears that the title was washed as a rebuilt, not as a salvage. Anyone have any idea how to fix this? I could be absolutely screwed
