You want one...lol. You'll spend $100k+ on a nice used one, then you'll spend $50k a year putting fuel in it and maintaining it if you use it 2x a month...lol.
Perfect example, it even has a torque converter instead of a clutch to help the trans and axles live longer.

I would rather buy an actual racecar. They're more durable...lol. Or finish the truck I already have. Or continue to blow it all off and keep building the Evo lmao

Lol I said I want one. A man can dream right!? Sheesh!
Im with you though I'd rather have an offroad truck seems more versatile and durable. But also can get expensive quickly. I should just get back into dirtbiking. Oh wait MA killed that one for me too after being chased by environmental police every time I'd go riding...

It has the original 4.0L single over head cam engine in it, even when the motor stock, it went pretty good. 5.14:1 rear gears with 35" tall tires made it pretty decent. The motor now has forged JE pistons (10.5: compression, stock is 9.7:1) and manley rods. Original plan was for ported heads and cams, but I got f#cked by the shop that was supposed to that for me, so it has stock heads/cams on it now. It has a tremec tr3650 trans (5 speed manual from 2005-2009 mustang gt). It needs about $6k-$7k to finish. And probably 100 hours of work. The hardest part is going to be building custom headers because the stock exhaust manifolds don't clear the new trans and adapter plate.Originally Posted by warmmilk

The Evo was supposed to stay "stock". Then it was "oh, I'll just do an intake/exhaust, tune, and coilovers" and as you can see, that kind of snowballed (avalanched)....

Oh well. In due time.
how much power do you think its gonna make? how much are you giving up with the heads and cams? why not a V8 swap instead?

With heads and cams it would make in the neighborhood 220-240whp. Bone stock they do about 160whp with 35" tires. I also plan on going up to a 5.43 rear gear. A guy I know with a similar motor to what I was planning (except he had lower compression and milder cams) made 210whp through a Ford C4 auto trans. And those things are HP vacuums. The manual trans should free up a bit of a power.
No V8 swap because when you make power in offroad, you break parts. And parts that can't handle the abuse get expensive real quick. Things like axles, 3rd members (ring and pinion) and transmissions. So keeping the V6, and the power at a more reasonable level allows me to run relatively inexpensive off the shelf stock replacement type parts.

An offroad car capable of effectively handling 400whp would basically be a class one car. You can pick one of those up for the affordable price of $150k+ lol. It would cost $75k to take my range from where it is now, to being built to handle that much power.

^Is that truck even AWD? looks to be RWD based on the roostertails...either way that thing is cool!
Sean- Finish the truck and go have some fun. You have the right idea; keep the V6 in there. Its more fun driving the truck vs spending money fixing sh8t that's broken...

That turbo truck is 4wd drive. It just has a turning tire on the front, so the paddles on it are smaller and they don't create nearly as much roost. The front tires look like tires that you put on the rear of like a manx dune buggy for sand use.
I want to finish it. Trying to get finances in order for it. I would be a lot better off if I hadn't done a second track day this year and bought another set of wheels for the Evo
, or had a wheel off at the first one

Yeah I saw that but still didnt see any sand flying up at all and couldnt really see a front driveshaft so wasnt sure...
And I hear you on the finances. Of course your little "incident" didnt help the case. Im in the same boat trying to save up to buy a truck and retire Eva from DD duties. Just seems somehting always comes up that requires my attention and $$ and that idea gets pushed back...

Yeah, I had a pretty decent chunk of cash set aside. Then the wheel off ended up costing about $4,500 total with replacing my track wheels. I didn't feel comfortable tracking on a wheel that rode on the rotor/caliper for 100ft before being ejected from the wheel well lol. And the Konigs I was using have been discontinued so I got the RPF1's.
