Understandable. Well, the RPF1's are a good choice you really cant go wrong with those or something like NT03's (my personal favorite I have 2 sets of those). Just seems like at their price point they are tough to beat and theyre not rare that if something happens you wont be able to source a replacement. Everyone is all about rarity when it comes to wheels and I'll just never understand that. Sure I'd love me a set of CE28N's but it seems silly knowing that Im good at destroying wheels.

I hope to buy a truck in the next few months though. I have the cash; Im just trying my best to build up a reserve house fund should I get fired or something like that. Im getting there though and my spending has gone down considerably and Im almost at where I'd like to be in terms of the garage house and big purchases.

Now I just need to figure out what kind of truck I should get. Hoping to be in around 15k and keep the miles <100K. You like your F150? From what Ive read I need to stay away from the 5.4 so guessing what you have it out of my budget...Im leaning towards a Ram 1500 with the 5.7 Hemi but am not partial to any brand. Seems they all have their perks and weaknesses.

The 5.4 is fine, it just is down on power compared to the newer offerings. Especially if you an 04-08 with a 4 speed trans. the 09 and 10 at least have the six speed. But it looks like with your budget anything 2011 and newer is going to be too much. You can 2wd stx and xlt models for low 20's if you look though. Idk about 4wd's. I got lucky with my truck, paid $25k for it, it had 78k miles on it, and it's a certified pre-owned. Dealer had it on the lot for like 95 days, couldn't get rid of it for some reason.

I wouldn't buy a dodge...lol. In your price range I feel like an F150 is your best option. They're a lot nicer than the Chevy's, and I just wouldn't buy a dodge. The only real issue with the 5.4 is breaking spark plugs when you try to change them. So, when you want to change the spark plugs, just take it to a shop that is familiar with how to do it right. They get some timing chain noise, especially at start up, as they age, but it's not a performance or reliability issue.

This truck is a great example:

Lol see you're just like everyone else...had a feeling being that you have an f150 you are partial to them. My budget isnt set per se I just figured that was a reasonable amount to pay. Really all I want is a solid truck that would be a nice DD and allow my to tow the evo. Not long distance hauls so not interested in a diesel although it is tempting just seems silly as a DD and being that 99.8% of the time I wont be towing with it.

The spark plugs is exactly what Im worried about. I dont want those things stripping out but I'd imagine its common enough and especially being that I live in a place where rust is prevalent seems the odds are that Ill run into that issue.

Has to be 4wd too so no cost savings there. So why that hate on the Mopar, lol? Im really open to anything assuming it fits the bill of being reliable comfortable and can tow well. If the 5.4 has no ***** then Ill prob hate it. I like the Hemi, the 5.3 in the Chevy is rock solid (obvi) and I'd like the 5.0 in the Ford or better yet the evoboost but those are out of my budget...

When I worked at auto parts stores, Dodge trucks were the #1 truck that always needed repair type parts (a lot of water pumps and front suspension components) vs just maintenance items. The chevy's also seem to go through water pumps and front hubs. You know what we didn't even stock for the newish (2004 and up) Fords because they didn't sell? Water pumps, front hubs, and suspension components...lol

The 5.4 is no more "gutless" than a 5.3 in the same year chevy. And the 5.4 really wakes up with a programmer. And the F150 really does just handle better. I own an F150 because I am indeed partial to them, but I am partial to them because they really are the best half ton.

As far as diesels go, dodge has the better/more reliable motor unless you get a ford with the 7.3. But the ford truck is still nicer than the dodge truck.

Here's a decent looking 2011 for $20k. They're out there, you just mey need to extend your budget a bit. The nice thing about the newer truck is the 6r80 trans they come with is bullet proof. And the 5.0 is a great motor.

Interesting insight. I need to do a ton more research on the trucks when I start getting more serious and of course go drive some. And dont tell me about this programmer the last thing I need is to start modifying my truck, lol! Although I will admit my ears did just perk up haha!

IDK man it prob gunna depend on whats available when Im looking and what meets my price.

If I were to go diesel it's prob be the 7.3 but the chances of me getting one of those is slim to none. Doesnt help that my gf hates the smell of diesel lol!

So 20k is prob my cutoff although I'd like to be closer to 15k. Originally I said I wanted it to be under 10k but you cant get much truck for that unless its super high miles and a beat up work truck which isnt exactly what Im looking for. This truck doesnt need to last me forever but Id like to get IDk maybe 8 years out of it. By then Ill basically be a pro so Ill have to get a duelly to haul the 40' enclosed and then pick up a Raptor too. The new 2017's should be more affordable by then haha

Expect to spend $15-20k to find a good example of a 2004 or newer 4wd F150 with <100k miles.

As for the rest of it, I just want a toter home with a 600hp cummins ISX, and that 40ft enclosed needs to be a stacker. lol

Great now you have me reading about programmers for F150's. Lol! You are a bad influence!

And yeah that would be amazing. But not exactly affordable but I guess we can all dream, right? You prob need a CDL for something like that too I'd imagine...and obviously a stacker pshhh!

No CDL required as long as you put a "not for hire" sticker on the door. You do technically need a "J" endorsement on your license though depending on how much everything ends up weighing (toter and trailer). NV doesn't seem to care though, no one I know has ever been pulled over to check vehicle weight and license endorsements.

Wow I never knew that about the "not for hire" sticker. Guess that's why I always see those on the 3 car carrier gooseneck haulers...

Well, there you have it looks like I need to step up my game. No more excuses. I should buy me a sand rail while Im at it. And an off road truck. And of course strip and cage the ego. Wahoo this is going to be sweet!
