I just ask one favor from people reading this thread that either will or do own an Evo. Please don't ever talk about "racing heritage" in reference to this car. Yes, I know it has a pretty good racing pedigree, however this is the kind of garbage Ferarri owners talk about when they get wasted by a little Japanese four-door with a tacky wing ; ) If you get beat by an SRT-4, you got beat. No biggie. There is always tomorrow. Besides, they only got their SRT for 5-10 grand cheaper than ours. Imagine how much the Ferarri drivers have to rationalize...

I don't understand why everyone keeps saying the SRT-4 pulls harder or is faster in a straight line cause if you look at all the specs its not. and isn't by a fair margine. Mitsu dealers have rated the evo at 13.5 seconds for 1/4 and Road and track have pulled times as good as 13.08. (yes i realize most people can't get that quick) Dodge rates the SRT-4 at 14.6 seconds and Other places I have seen it get down to 13.9 but thats still almost a full second slower so why are people saying its faster in a line when its far from it?

Atlvalet, yeah it is fun smacking down some of the big dogs. Funny at Fontucky a Ferrari 360 Modena thought they would come out and lay the smack down at the 1320. Well fortunately for him he lined up against another track car NSX and his 13.80 at low 100mph brouht him victory. Also my friend at work bought a Viper and proclaimed himself the new sheriff in town(fastest car at work). My friend with an 03 Cobra did not like his comments and was pissed but due to the fact that he has a Vert and the new NHRA rules were not out yet he left it alone. Me on the other hand challenged him and to date the best time he has been able to muster is 12.9 at 113mph.I guess I shot the sheriff, I shot him down. They should make a song like that. My point is even if you have a fast car most people who own fast cars can't come close to driving them to their potential.I know I am a hinderence to my cars potential.

i am stunned that anyone thinks that the stock srt-4 pulls harder than a stock evo. i have driven 3 srt-4's. two stock. one with catback and dp exhaust. not even close to the evo IMO. my stock evo pulled on the srt-4 with exhaust from a 2nd and 3rd gear pull.

i guess there could be a monster factory srt-4 that feels stronger than a lemon factory evo, but thats it.

not doggin on the srt-4, i am in the market for a used one for my wifes daily driver.

Sentinal, get out of the mags and go to the tracks. The Srt-4 stock 04 version pulls at least as hard as an Evo. From a dig the evo owns the Srt-4 by a good margin but from a 20-40 mile roll it is a drivers race with the Srt-4 pulling a lil harder. It is 2-300 pounds lighter and has about the same whp and more tq stock. How come this is so hard to believe. Give the car the credit it deserves. From a roll on this car is as fast if not faster than the Evo. Lets be objective guys.I love my Evo and it is the shizzle but give this lil Srt-4 the respect it deserves and remember their are some cool srt-4 owners out there that know the Evo is the better overall car but are happy to hang or edge a stock Evo from a roll.

IE_EVO Ive driven the SRT-4 and yes its a quick car probably the fastest car you can get for 20k. But its not faster than the Evo it can almost keep up from a rolling start but its not going to win unless the Evo driver sucks. Just cause you got your A$s handed to you by an SRT-4 at the track doesn't mean its faster.

I've had my evo for well over a year and I'm loving every minute of it. But I still think an SRT4 is a great car for the price. If I couldn't afford an evo, I think I might have gotten an SRT4. Don't really care for it's looks though, but performance wise, it's a great deal.

Sentinal, Never got my a$$ handed to me by an srt-4.Where in my post did I say that.Only one to date that I have seen at the track that could hand me my A$$ has recently blown-up.I am sorry that my experiences are different than yours and a lil more objective. Btw just because your Evo is faster than one stock srt-4 does not mean that is the norm. Many variables including car to car variences can explain the differences that many Srt and evo owners experience. From my personal experience behind the wheel and other Evo friends that have been pulled on we have concluded that it is a close race and in some instances the Srt pulls a lil harder.(car to car variances). However from a dig it is no contest. The Evo owns. One test was done with Srt vs.Sti and the Sti from 20-40mph rolls won by about 5 ft if I remember correctly. Sorry I am objective guys.

Same whp ? if you've got one of the screwed up evos, maybe. non-inflated numbers I've seen for the SRT-4s have been in the 190's. Folks claiming 230 - 240 whp stock in SRTs are well, whacked.

Its a great little car, but your observations have not been my experiences with it.

personally i'm sick of the srt-4. i work in a low income area and the srt-4 is like a bentley to these people. there are tons of them and they all try to race me. what are they thinking when i have a 6 year old in the back seat? i know there are cool owners around but i'm just stating that in this area, they are a**holes. for example, i work in a stereo shop and one came in last night and told me my car was just and his neon would waste me. i just ignored him. i worked on his srt-4 (which was brand new by the way) and i looked down and noticed that the exhaust tips weren't even straight. one was further into the bumper than the other. and this is a brand new car! and i'm not talking like a little bit. i'm talking about an inch! what a waste of money. american cars will never be better than there overseas counterparts.

Well I'm sure I'm gonna get replys of just another Troll but we at SRT-4 forums have qutie a few EVO owners who post quite happily in harmony with us without making themselves look like a fool.

First off let me start by saying how much I love the EVO, If I had another 8k when I was buying my Dodge I would have bought the EVO in a second as it is still and will remain a car I lust after. Any time I meet an EVO owner out and about I always tell them how much I like thier car.

Not all SRT's are POS. Yeah the build quality is no where near the level of the Japenese but Dodge did a hell of a job with the engine and trans package. 1000's of these cars a beat to hell on drag strips weekly and how many have you seen towed home???? Not many.

As far as performance comparsions in the real world go and not a bunch of magazines racers which I have seen quoted here our cars are no where near your league in overall performance. Stock SRT's do make 210 to 230 hp I've seen it at dyno days with my on two eyes. My car made 215 . with just a intake, full 3" turbo back with Cat (I'm environmentally friendly LOL) and an AGP WGA I'm pulling 265 now. Stock my times where 14.2, 14.3 best pass to date with current mods is 13.41 not bad for less than 1k in mods IMO.

I've raced many an EVO, midly modded EVO I can hang with from a roll and have pulled a few. I've also been OWNED by a fire spitting RS that I found out later runs 11's and been pulled by a couple others. I'm well aware all my car is good for straight line performance which is why I say where not in your league as you guys can turn and stop as well as go fast straight ahead (another reason why I want an EVO so bad).

Can't we all just get along. I've seen many guys post here who obviously have mutal respect and then I see the Monkeys who give you a bad name who just talk trash (believe me I know the SRT community has just as many idots if not more LOL I'm just not one of them). I hate seeing any good value performance car trashed. We both have them but please so of you guys come off so high and mighty it makes me want to

Simple Facts by EVOL 8-

-Srt is FWD, Evo is AWD.
-Srt has TD04 turbo which is smaller than the TD05 on the Evo.
-stock vs. stock- it's just not happening for the SRT
-many friends with SRTs+many races with their SRTs= knowledge

put some coilovers and bars on the srt4, and it'll handle just fine

neons DO normally do well in autox and things anyway
