The SRT4s are very close in straight-line performance (minus the AWD launch).
From a roll, as IE said, it would be a drivers race.
The car to car variances and other factors (like driver skill) account for some people's different experiences.
Those cars may need more attention in the handling and braking departments but the straight-line performance is a great bang-for-the-buck!

Who really cares about any of this? This is yet another indication of the inanity and immaturity that seems to increasingly permeate these boards. They are both cars. They are both fast cars. There are an infinite number of variables that determine who can "pull" whom on any given day. Some of both cars are driven by *******s; some are driven by great people. Normal human endeavor. When people integrate their egos with what car they drive, this is the kind of skewed discourse that results.

I agree the SRT is a good car for people who cant afford to play with EVOs of who are looking for a cheap way to get down the quarter mile. Bang for the buck. Now come on the EVO has a lot of heritage and panche to those who follow the WRC....
I don't see why these threads start........you're comparing a FWD $20k car to an AWD $30k car.......there's not many valid comparisons you can make here. In their respective classes the SRT and the EVO are each at the top of the game. Also if you check out the SRT forums you'll see the engines and drivetrains are rock solid....not a lot of problems unless guys are dragging every weekend. I've been very surprised at how good of a car it has been. That being said I'm sick of FWD and would love to move up to EVO territory which is why I'm here
Hagakure,I agree with you but my conjecture happened to be more exhaustive. How you liking your Works package. Several guys on this forum are so biased and subjectively hynotized by their car it is sickening. I love my car and it kicks A$$ but I don't need to put down other great bang for the buck cars to justify my purchase and claim my car is superior. Yes there are several a-hole srt-4 owners but that also goes for Evo owners. We are all in the same game it is just some chose to spend more or could spend more. Yes it goes w/o saying with a car that is relatively fast and affordable for a teen or young adult they are going to act a lil more immaturie on the streets and on the forums. That kill section on their forum is quite funny at times. Srt-4 vs. F-16 jet fighter-Srt owner- I pulled hard and then he got scared and started flying.OUT!

It all gets a bit rediculous at times! I actually think the SRT's are cool little cars, and if something like that had been around when Iwas in my 20's I would have been ecstatic. I LOVE the works package. tons of torque, very tractable power, and pulls hard to redline. I know that there are pacjkages that make more peak HP, but few that have such a great deal of usable HP and torque under the curve from 3000-redline (7850). Very useful on the track, autocrossing, etc.

As long as you are happy with it is all that matters. IMHO Works is a lil conservative for me but that does not make them inadequate as a tuner. They do as advertised and that is make your Evo faster with stock like drivability when needed. However, I am addicted to race gas power and Works did not offer this as an option. I originally had the Works p2,tb and the axleback exhaust, i guess the 303 package and was happy with the cars overall performance and drivability. I probably would of stuck with their upgrade path and after the announcement of the full exhaust and cams before x-mas i was stoked but ended up disappointed when the parts never arrived or were on back order. Heck is their turbo kit even out yet. That has been in the Works forever(pun intended). It is funny I went with Works at 1st because I knew that at the Atp dynoday I could get hooked up and Shivs stuff was always on back order and I made the switch based on the same circumstances. Glad you are as happy as I am with your upgrade path and it is nice to know that some other evo owners can be objective.
I almost bought an EVO, but the GF said the car didn't justify the price tag.... so I went for the next best thing in my eyes, the SRT-4 (sorry Subaru, your car does not appeal to me). I haven't looked back yet.
As far as parts breaking in the SRT-4..... I haven't heard of many snapped axles, but wouldn't be surprised to see it soon.... some owners are doubling stock HP....eventually something is going to give. It's no problem though, there have been beefed up Neon axles on the aftermarket for years. Alot of car makes have problems when it comes to holding together a drivetrain after serious power increases.... look at AWD DSM's, or AWD 3SI's (thats what hte 3000gt and Stealth is called right?), or seriously modified Fbods (they grenade rear ends).
Crappy American built car you say? Get it right you guys.... its Mexican built!!!!!!!!!!!!
When taken in context the SRT-4 is the king, and the best deal out there. Dodge wanted to conquer the FWD Sports Compact market and they did. Is it gods gift to FWD cars? Nope... its lacking too much to get that honor....but as far as performance goes you can't beat it in a FWD car. That should earn it a shred of credibility or respect.
The Neon has a bit of a racing heritage..... ever since it was built it has been a very srtong contender in SCCA events, not as glorified as World Rallying, but enough a racer nonetheless.
I have a chance at racing A buddies buddies EVO. Its seriously modded, and they say 470WHP on good 'ol 93. I think my stock SRT-4 will take it.... Im going to unplug a plugwire.... bwahahaha...
To those that still dislike the SRT-4..... its ok... you are car enthusiasts and sometimes that means loving your car sooooo much it skews your judgement. There a mustang guys that are still in denial of the SRT-4 even after it zips past them... Many SRT-4 guys still believe their cars are godsend, and nothing can 3var be faster....well I guess you see where Im going.
Thumbs up to the EVO.... hopefully you guys can respect the SRT-4 for what it is (20k Turbo FWD pocket rocket), and not hate it for what it isn't (30k AWD Turbo rocket that ownz most domestics in most performance categories).

Howdy all SRT guy here and have to say I to love EVO's like a lot of srt guys actualy couldnt afford an evo adn the srt was perfect second choice.
First as for HP yeah 190hp is kinda true if it done on a mustang(inertia) dyno that knocks a lot of hp off from a dynojet style. On most dynos that people seem to use for pwr quotes the 04' srt is getting from 215-230@ the wheels.
Heck with about 8 bucks in mods I was traping 102 my first time at the track. The reason a lot of people and mags say the SRT is best bang for the buck is cause for it's catagory and class it's tops and for usualy 1/2 or less price differnce they can be made to compete with or beat the higher class's
Also the body and basic frame is about all that is stock neonish stuff the rest was made for the SRT. If dodge had another compact I am sure they would have used it for the srt but the neon all they had. I owned a 2003 SXT neon before this and I can tell you that all the money went into performance and not much in style and looks. I mean really don't it look like someone kicked the butt in the air and it froze, and the wing looks like the handle of an easter basket, trust me us owners know how our car looks.
The handleing aint as good as the ACR but it better than stock neon. For a bit of money can really improve the handleing of the car big time. Also like most things drivers can make a big differnce, heck I know some evo guys I could beat in the winding back rds around me with my hyundai station wagon( granted if ya saw how we drive the wagon you would swear that we are gonna wreck 90% of the time we are behind the wheel) casue we know our limits of the car and push it right to them. And just so yall don't get to upset I said a few drivers around my way for the most part I would like to think that 95% of the people that own an EVO can at least drive it pretty good.
The one evo owner I got to met around here for a few was a huge ricer, he should have been driving a primered civic with tv's and 20's quoting the F&F. He would talk big about his car then when we would call him on it he would come up with some reason as to why he couldnt run us, and just after we would leave he would start with the "man if they were here right now I would smoke them afterall". People like that so are not car people to me and sadly all cars have owners like that.
The EVO and STI are in a differnt class and grouping of cars, as for the WRC well the SRT rally car is doing really great in it's class or was when I was keeping up with it and funny thing is that I know of several people that have more done to there car than the rally SRT LOL
Everyone wants to have there car beat a car that is a step up from theres. As far as performace goes SRT is kinda in the btm end class so most any car we beat is a car a step up from us. LOL And the truth is all of us car guys love to see the look of shock on someones face that is just a lil' to full of them and there car.
Overall most compact and import guys give us SRT guys more crap then V-8 guys, mustang and F-body people give us a lot more respect and get a kick out of our car more than import/compact guys which I find werid. And I have definatly heard the convos go on about how ricer the EVO and STI guys are cause of there huge wings and thinking they can run with there...F-body,stang,cobra,muscle car...just as much as I hear evo guys talking the same about srt people.
One thing we all need to realize is that differnt people and cars are usualy made or built with a certain thing in mind and in doing so those said cars like to stick to what they are best suited for. Cobra guys like to stick to not just strightline but 1/4, AWD usualy road racing cause really even a bad driver in an AWD can beat a 1/4 mile built car with a great driver in road racing it seems cause AWD is awsome for overall performance.

1 more thing as for the SRTforums the war story section is kinda a running joke at this point and a lot of the posts are either trolls or just kinda SRT people making fun of war stories as a whole, trust me not a lot of us take that section seriously and if a troll wants to arugee about somthing usualy there are enough on there that will just arguee using the most cheesy net excuses you can find. Ever see the threaed where some srt guys were saying how the srt owns the cobra cause the srt has more cup holders LOL

First off let me start by saying how much I love the EVO, If I had another 8k when I was buying my Dodge I would have bought the EVO in a second as it is still and will remain a car I lust after. Any time I meet an EVO owner out and about I always tell them how much I like thier car.
Not all SRT's are POS. Yeah the build quality is no where near the level of the Japenese but Dodge did a hell of a job with the engine and trans package. 1000's of these cars a beat to hell on drag strips weekly and how many have you seen towed home???? Not many.
As far as performance comparsions in the real world go and not a bunch of magazines racers which I have seen quoted here our cars are no where near your league in overall performance. Stock SRT's do make 210 to 230 hp I've seen it at dyno days with my on two eyes. My car made 215
. with just a intake, full 3" turbo back with Cat (I'm environmentally friendly LOL) and an AGP WGA I'm pulling 265 now. Stock my times where 14.2, 14.3 best pass to date with current mods is 13.41 not bad for less than 1k in mods IMO.
I've raced many an EVO, midly modded EVO I can hang with from a roll and have pulled a few. I've also been OWNED by a fire spitting RS that I found out later runs 11's
and been pulled by a couple others. I'm well aware all my car is good for straight line performance which is why I say where not in your league as you guys can turn and stop as well as go fast straight ahead (another reason why I want an EVO so bad).
Can't we all just get along. I've seen many guys post here who obviously have mutal respect and then I see the Monkeys who give you a bad name who just talk trash (believe me I know the SRT community has just as many idots if not more LOL I'm just not one of them). I hate seeing any good value performance car trashed. We both have them but please so of you guys come off so high and mighty it makes me want to

That's the cool thing about the Evo aftermarket, there is a tune for everyone. Works is conservative, and that fits my needs. My car is definitely making the adverstised 330-340 Crank HP, and with the torque placement, is very strong. I plan to go with their water injection and a slightly more radical P2, which should make at least 360 HP. My car is a very fast car with 60-70 more HP than stock...but the need for speed is relative, eh? My goal is to make a fairly dedicated track car out of the Evo, and their safe tuning approach works for me. Not to down any other tuner, because Evo owners are very fortunate to have such an active and competent aftermarket. IT's a shame really that there is so much infighting amongst the customer base regarding tuner loyalty, because it's all good.

I started on these forums befor i went on srtforums, but sence im only 18 and cant afford a 30k car i went with the SRT4. I love the evo, its still #1 on my list. But right now im happy with my socalled neon, and if u guys say its still a neon, your evo is still a lancer. SAme thing they both have different engines, different suspention(evo's 100 times better), ect...
