of course I like the SRT-4 because I bought one. I really wanted an EVO or an STI but didn't quite wanna spend that much $$$ at the time and for $21k the SRT is the quickest car you can buy. The handling definitely has a lot to be desired (especially compared to my Mazdaspeed) but the SRT sure is a fun car on the streets. The powerband is just really sweet and you can find juice to pass anywhere in the rev range. Also with all the Mopar stuff (Stage I-III kits for engine and suspension) you can make it into a real performer. I've been told that a cheap set of aftermarket motor mounts really helps the engine bounce and wheel hop on launch so you can get the power down too.
I don't compare the SRT to the EVO though.....there's a $10k price difference there for a reason. Once I have the cash, the SRT will likely be history and I'll have an EVO or a 350Z so I can have the power going to the right wheels.....I'm done with FWD. The Mazdaspeed stays though.....I just love that car and so does the wife and she won't let it go.

2nd yes I like it. for 20k hell yeah I like it. AWD or not its a great car and to me it looks good. Not all cars have to be AWD and/or look like an Evo. The only thing that I would like to see different is rear power windows and a little just a little more room to fit my *** in those seats

I know a guy in Phx, AZ who has one that is putting down 351hp at the wheels. It is a very impressive car, very strong in 2nd and 3rd gear pulls, but very sluggish in the top end due to poor tuning (lack of tuning and fuel actually). I love the sound of the AGT turbo kit and the GReddy type S BOV. Rode in his car for the first time last week and two things I took away from the ride...
1) Very powerful from a roll...needs wider, stickier tires all around and larger injectors for better fuel effieciency (running very, VERY lean) at higher speeds, and
2) Very scary thinking about rolling along in a Dogde NEON at 100+mph...very uncomfortable due to the dashboard being so big (couldn't see the hood at all) and the ride quality was very rough...which could be due to his suspension set-up. Dodge needed to do way more engineering on other things like suspension, braking, and ergonomics after stuffing a 215-230hp motor in such a small, economy car.
As for the bang for the buck theory, I highly doubt 99% of SRT-4 owners got the car for anything under $26,000 after everything was said and done. I looked at a few 2004 models and they were base models with no floor mats for christ sake and stickered at $22,000...I bet most of the SRT-4 owners have 5 year loans and $400-500/month payments...($24,000-$30,000).
I would still buy an EVO VIII...again, I dig the guy's car. but he spent a lot of money on an aftermarket turbo kit and only shaved two-tenths off his 1/4 mile time...ran a 13.9 bone stock and 13.7 @ 112mph...Again, beefeir tires and fuel tuning and I bet he would be in the low 12's, maybe high 11's...

I got my 2004 w/sunroof for $21,800 out the door including tax, tag, and title. I haggled for the better part of 2 days for that price but it can be had. If someone pays over $23k after tax/tag/title is added then they are getting ripped off. Many dealers are still adding markups too and anyone who pays those for ANY car is on CRACK!!!!
I love my little Neon, but I couldn't imagine paying close to $26k for one. With a nice downpayment, I'm in the high $200's for 48 mos. I would have rather had an EVO, but I'm a poor graduate student who won't have his Ph.D for four-and-half more years, so I had to the SRT thing for a little while.

I didn't say all...I said 99%...you two are probably the few that are old enought and have enough good credit to not need a co-signer, or don't get bent over with a 20+% interest rate....
I was able to get my 2003 SRT-4 for a little over 21K out the door. Infact every SRT-4 around me has paid less than 23K out the door (For 04's, 03's were even cheaper). Please, get your facts straight.
And Hoochs, all an Evo needs is a boost controller and a full exhaust to compete with a Stage 2 SRT-4. The Evo turbo is bigger than the SRT-4's so running even more boost and open the exhaust up will yield great gains.

I got the new SCC mag in the mail yesterday and they test the new Dodge "extreme lightweight" SRT-4 and say it's the fastest FWD car they've ever tested. The performance mods are just the Mopar Stage III with the Stage II turbo toys (for 100 octane performance) along with the Mopar coilovers. They also gutted the interior and made CF body panels to make it really light. The impressive part is that the car dynoed at 370hp and 380 ft lbs of torque at the wheels. Very impressive horsepower for factory mods.
I for one love my car, but evo is still #1 on my list. I didnt get one because i cant afford it, only being 18 and on a part time job. Hopfully next year i will trade my SRT in for a MR. AND dont judge people by what they drive, cuz u just might get a surpize....
