Yaris GR vs Type R

Which would you get?
When the yaris is coming with 356mm front brakes..... it really makes you wonder what is going on with this trend of cars coming with massive brakes that for the same weight wasn't even a thing with double the power decades ago.

It's a "tuner" trend now. You should see the parking lot shopping center warriors in the VW Wagon facebook group I'm in. They drive their kids to school and pick up milk from the grocery store, but have to have those 355mm yellow neuspeed BBK's.

I like being different, so I'd buy a Yaris GR if it was available. Type R is pretty proven imo! The looks aren't for me though.

Well it looks that the 2020 Type R is sorted out. The gremlins going on the CTR have been keeping me out. If you are keeping the Evo, why not also have a FWD nugget at hand? If you are not keeping the Evo, go with the Yaris if and only if has the locking diffs. Rumor is that outside core markets, we are only getting the open diff option ;( I'm also planning to buy it, if if! The 2020 CTR is not being released south of the wall.

Type R but I'm bias lol. I like the Yaris GR tho and I heard Toyota is bringing the Yaris over as a Corolla hatch. We'll see.

Yaris for me. I can’t get passed the look of the Type R. Performance is dope from what I read though.

I'd go with the GR Yaris. As much as I like the Type-R, I tend to lean more towards rally-inspired cars.

I was surprised US got the CTR. It seems auto manufacturers know the US doesn't play well with their toys. Even FORD doesn't sell compact sport vehicles in their own country. Fiesta ST, Focus ST....gone
Yaris gr would have been interesting but still waiting for a reasonably priced performance hybrid.
CO2 output emission standards are going to drive manufacturer options for years to come.

IMO, they should not be cross compared
Yaris is a limited production car(Toyota put a hardcap for the amount of Yaris they will produce per calendar month) and the price is matching or higher than Civic Type R while having smaller engine etc
It's more of a modern EVO in the sense that it is a modern rally homologation ish car eventhough there are no requirement for it
One interesting fact, it is developed with input from Tommi Makinen as he is the team principal for Gazoo Racing WRC team
So, it will be a cool car to own alongside EVO VI TME

The GR Yaris will definitely be a future collector.
