Advice on starting car after 5 years of sitting

The car has gone from a shell to a new head , block and almost everything new
Started as 19 years and now I’m 23 and my ego is making me think maybe I shouldn’t take it to a shop and I can do it my self and save money
now since my Evo does have 1200ccs and a upgraded fuel pump and I’ve never started a car up like this
what would have to be done ? What would I have to learn so that I won’t mess the car up ? Or is it smarter to just take the Evo to the shop for it to be dialed and I do everything else

I don't do my own tuning so I would probably reach out to the shop you plan to have tune the car. They should be able to provide a basemap for starting it, checking for leaks and such, and getting it on a trailer before the tune.

Alternatively, you could read up on how to tune these cars if that's something you want to do yourself and start making changes. I personally didn't go that route but I am learning a little now to make some changes.

Are you still on the stock ECU?

Its should be okay with a basemap/tephra rom. I had 2150cc injectors on my first startup after a new build and used that to idl/cruise to my tuner. I made some minor adjustments on my own and it actually ran pretty perfect. Just turn down the boost. Had some misfires/engine knock at high revs but it was good enough to startup. Just DO NOT hit boost. Avoid hard pulls and as schuhie says check for vac leaks everywhere, check a seconds time then a third time. If you are not comfortable with what i said then do not attempt to start the car. Just have it towed to a shop in your area that knows these cars.
