EVO to M3?
Why would you but any performance car if your not going to use that performance on a track? Might be why a lot of people have a clue and get SUVs to drive around town in. You can haul lots of people and gear around slowly, safely, and very comfortably.
Why would you want to compromise performance with luxury, it's like mixing oil and water. Use the oil where it belongs and the water where it belongs. Kinda like work and play, they don't mix.
I feel for those of you who have to present a certain image for business. I'll stick to just delivering on the results and getting back out to the track..

I think it's more like sugar water. Water tastes good, but sugar water tastes better and comforting.
I personally am getting old, I think...
I use to strip the car bare and lower the hell out of it and spent all the money on the engine and nothing else.
I had only the driver seat on my last car...
now, i need to be pampered a bit more. Need time to think quietly in my car...
man, getting old sucks.

Engineering wise the BMW has no magic sauce. There is no component that only a German engineer can design and only another German worker can create that makes the M3 what it is. It is the willingness of BMW to spend development time and money to get the handling response that they desire.
The Evo is in many ways the same. Just with much quicker evolution and a different handling target. The Evo handles differently than an M3, not necessarily better or worse.
Just as the Evo is not trying to be a M3 clone, which is refreshing in itself, it should not be judged by how close it has come to the M3 ideal. The Evo is intended for a different purpose (I am not talking marketing demographics here) for 2-liter turbo group A, N and WRC rallying. It is the best car in the world at production based rallying.
The Evo is a very rare car in numbers and in focus. It should be enjoyed while it is available. There are many options for someone looking for a good performing luxury car. Very few options exist today for a narrowly focused performance cars. To try make an Evo more luxurious to compete with M3s would be a mistake, but it could definitely be done.
The way the public responds to both cars is just fashion, style and perceptions. If you let other people’s perception affect your choices and run your life. I wish you all the best.

Well said!
Well, I dunno about you guys, but my girlfriend absolutely love my evo!!! She loves it so much that the moment I mention about trading it away, she would cry. By the way, there are much more m3s around than EVO. Im still the very few evo around the Houston area. Peace...

I never said that those aren't valid concerns but unless they are willing to buy you the car, drive what you want. But don't listen to me either cause I surely will not buy you a car.
The only thing I want you to infer about me because of my Evo ownership is that I bought an Evo nothing else.
