I have a dilemma, I really love the S4 which is currently available but the company I work for wants me to buy/lease a new car. The problem is that the company is a small/medium family business where the other members of the company do not drive expensive cars. I was willing to wait for improvements of the evolution such as cruise control and active yaw control, but since there hasn't been any released information to the public about availablity and cost, it looks like the S4. This is the dilemma, can someone new to the company get a better car than the other family members.

The Audi S4 weighs 3,900 lbs. which is really heavy compared to MR which gives the MR a 0-60 time of 4.7 seconds while the S4 gets a 0-60 time of 5.4 seconds. The brakes are bigger and better in the MR than the S4: The MR stops at 108 ft. from 60-0 while the S4 stops at 118 ft. The tires are the same size but the MR tire's have more grip. The overall gear ratio for the S4 is better compared to the MR's :1. This means that if you opt with a manual(both of them have 6-speed's and who wouldn't take the manual!)you will have better shifting in the S4 and this guarentess the S4 can get more horsepower cause it has a bigger compression ration. Both of them seat 5 passengers. The engines are a big difference: The MR has a 285 B.H.P. and 291 lb.-ft. of torque coming from a Turbocharged Inline-4 while the S4 has 340 B.H.P. and 302 lb.-ft. of torque coming from a naturally aspirated(no turbo or super) V-8. The MR kicked the S4's butt on the skidpad and slalom, like it matters but, like I said, it's informative. They both have the same redline, 7,000 r.p.m. The S4 has a bigger gas tank but the MR has better mileage. Also, The S4 limits more sound noise in the cockpit than the MR (49 dBA to 52 dBa when idle in neutral). I would take the S4. All this info comes from Road and Track. Also, Road and Track said the MR would be coming to the states for around 33K.

Don't get a nicer car than the company owners. It will reflect poorly on you. It makes you look short sighted and not very conservative. I'm not sure why they would pay a $500 plus lease payment on an S4 anyway. Have them lease you an Accord or something similar and then go buy what you want with your money. You can drive the Accord to work and not look flashy.
Another alternative is to have them lease you a truck or SUV and you get the practicality associated with either of those. Then buy the MR and pocket the difference between that and the S4.

Might I suggest a wagon? Maybe it's just me, but I dig sport wagons.
A fun little ride though that won't break the bank, and is still pretty versatile for a 4-door, is Mazda's 6s 5-door. It's a 4-door hatchback, and most people would mistake it for the regular sedan. It looks a wee bit sleeker.
But I agree, get something reasonable for every day. Save your money for your weekend beast which you can do whatever you please with.

Thank you all for your help and support. My father would allow me to get the evo (any edition really) or even the infiniti g35 coupe oddly enough. My father drives a jaguar x type 3.0 along side with my grandmother who drives the same car. My uncle drives a GMC Envoy. The company is willing to get me such cars (only one total, not all) like the bmw 330xi, audi a4 3.0, and yes a jaguar x type 3.0. I checked on the web and the audi s4 which is a much nicer car than any of these cars is slighly more expensive than a bmw 330xi. I am willing to pay for some of the car in addition to getting to work several hours earlier.

Hey moviebumm, I think you shoud consider the car you want to live with the most. I personnally bought my evo because it was 29k and all the other cars in that range didn't compare. I went to look at the S4 but its a 50k car. I wasn't impressed with its 0-60 at all. Maybe you should consider a BMW M3. I think those cars are more of a bling bling kinda thing hehe. The new MR is gonna be alot lighter and 17k less give or take. If you want to tweak your car at all throw in 17k in your EVO and im pretty sure nothing much around you will be able to keep up
Most important thing is get what you like. If you want an inexpensive 4 door try looking at the SRT-4 i priced one out here by me with a stage 2 package at just over 23k = 260 hp 280 ft. lbs Thats an unbeatable price for the performance you get. Anyways look at what you want from your car. Look to see if you want a nice "pick up chicks" car or an inexpensive, fast, fun to drive car lol.

The S4 is a $50,000 car. The other cars you listed are $30-40,000. That's a pretty big difference.Originally Posted by moviebumm

The Evo would be the least expensive of the cars listed. Flashy, yes, but not that expensive. Rolling in a company S4 seems a bit inappropriate, to me at least. If you wanted to be a "company man" so to speak, getting a less expensive car (such as the aforementioned Accord) might look good, too.

two completely different cars. what you have to decide is whether you want a quick family sedan or a rediculous rough *** sports car that just so happens to have four doors.
i test drove a new S4 a little while ago. the fit and finish on the car is fantastic. especially the interior. it has decent power although i was a little dissapointed (it just didnt' feel that fast). the S4 is probably one of the nicest all around cars i have ever been in with it's engineering, refinement and styling. It is a great choice for anyone.
this is the real question though: Would i trade my EVO for a new S4? NO WAY!!

let me ask you this: do you like luxury or performance ? if you like luxury definetly go for the S4, but if you want a "race car" and care more about performance than anything else, the MR is the right car for you

I destroyed a chipped 2001 S4 yesterday. I had about 2 car lengths at 100 mph. My evo is lightly modded. If the company is paying for it I would opt for a cheaper car, maybe even a WRX or something like that, and then cop yourself a fat ride with your own money.

Once again, I will state what I always state in these car vs. car thread:
Drive both vehicles, then make a decision. Also only you can detemrine which car is best for your needs, advice from others should be taken with a grain of salt.....
(my point, if you like the concept of the MR wait and drive one, then chose)
