The leaf spring is a transverse single leaf that acts as an anti-sway bar. Very effective system used since the C4 (possibly before, but the SAE paper was written for C4 development). The suspension is an unequal length double wishbone design that was tweaked from the C5; with the transverse leafs front and rear.

well thats retarded that they made such a point of it then. The cheapness of the rest of the car really turned me off though......that rear end and the horrible shifter are still enough to make me think twice.

Leaf spring suspension is great for the accountants and drag racing, but as far as track use....

It is interesting to note that when Corvette goes racing -- the C5R -- they pitch out the leaf springs. Hmmmm

C5 Specs

Perhaps this car is targeted at 50 + year old Americans that still think the leaf spring is a new technology.

If they ever want to get any respect from the Europeans, they need get rid of anything that could have been used on a chariot by Charlton Heston.

My boss was restoring a 69 vette, and it had the transvers single leaf as well... plain as day to look at when there's no body on the frame. Granted the design has been "improved" (I emphasize the quotes) over time, but it is still by no means "new tech".

The "plastics" and "flimsyness" not to mention the shifter have been that way since the C5....not to mention the late C4s. However it never seemed to stop the american public from buying the newer Corvettes.

I also think, or atleast its my opinion, that when your dash is ither sun bleached or damaged, you will be glad its cheep plastic and less $$ to replace then if it were another materieal.

I personally think the corvette guys should be a little pissed about the comments... however it's true that the corvette really hasn't improved in fit and finish. But you have to admit that everything comes at a cost... I mean look at the NSX... it hasn't changed in 10 years and it costs $80k...

You pay for what you get for...

They trade out the leaf springs not because the coil springs are inherently better. They are easier to swap when tuning the vette for the track. The Top Gear team did make fools of themselves complaining about the leaf springs on that episode.

Leafs can be used in dumb ways but their not used poorly on the vette. They have unequal length A-arms all the way around built out of forged aluminum. The leafs are composite also. It is like saying that the Evo uses ancient tech steel coil springs, ignoring their application entirely. Being on TV does no make it true.

I never miss Top Gear. Below is a list of Top Gear and Ffth Gear for download. Bit torrent is required.
