Want to get a top end car that has evo like handling.

Hey im looking for a car that has some good top end that is rear wheel drive or even all wheel drive. I want it to have good handling so i can do autox and take it out to the track and, but also so i can have some fun with top end. i would get the evo but isnt the evo horible in the top end? Or can some mods be put on the car to make it a better car in top end. I would get the evo but i dont want to get killed in the higher top speeds. Sorry for the long post but i would like some car suggestions or some mods for the evo. THX

if you want top end an awd vehicle has the most drivetrain loss, rwd is second, and fwd has the least. id say an ITR would be your best bet.

stick with an Evo, AWD does kill top end a bit, but with some cams, a boost controller, and some type of fuel management your Evo will scream on top end. In all, spend about 1500 to 2000 on the Evo and your all set for now. If an ITR is so great at top end, why did I rape one that was turboed on top end to 135?

i didnt say in any way that its better than an evo, but its comparable. and to the guy who started this thread. why would you want top end if youre gonna auto-x it??? id think youd want low end if anything.

Someone's gotta say it - Why isn't 130-150 good enough?

Of course, if you're going to be dumb and go really fast, I'd recommend something that's not going to lose the back end at speed - 911, Z06, etc. If the Evo is the limit of your budget, and you want a new car, it'll be tough to beat (mainly because nothing is really close in handling without giving up a fair amount of power). Maybe the STi.

You need to lay down a budget!

How about a McLaren F1? Awe inspiring top end, and probably a lot of fun at an AutoX/track. You might get a fair amount of attention though.

What you might seriously consider would be a 90s 911 assuming that about 30k is your budget. I have outrun modded Audi S4s in my old 993 -- and that was up here at altitude. It also made a reliable and fun track car.

Of course you could just do what the rest of us do on this forum and just buy an Evo and do some light mods. It will never be a fantastic top end car because of the 4wd and the drag it creates, but it will hold its own.

AN ITR is no where near comparable to an Evo on topend, I came from one, well an Si wth an ITR head ported and polished, valve job, bigger cams, etc. The turbo helped it, but still NO WAY!! The best answer so far is you need to set a budget. if you were considering an Evo, I take it you dont mind spending 30 grand. Get the Evo and put the cams, etc and you wont be disappointed, matbe addicted though. Or if your budget is less you can buy my Evo.
