s2k's are fast..
damn i miss my s...the s2000 is a fast car, it properly driven, it can pretty much keep up with an evo from a roll. the evo does pull though. but from a dead stop, we all know the outcome.

Having driven a Stage 2 STI and Stage 1 Evo, I still find the stock S2000 to be in good company. Hell, I have a buddy who owns both a stage 2 STi and a (stock) S2000, if that tells you anything. : )
As for forced induction, adding a supercharger, that would be incredible (looking under the hood, it's as if this car were made for a drop-in S/C)!! Sorry I can't say anything about more specific about S2000 mods.
What I can say is if I had the oppurtunity to upgrade at this time, the choice would be a battle between the STI, MR, S2000. Of course, each has its unique charms. If you're looking for a covertable, rear-wheel-drive, tossable ride... it'd be hard to come close for the money.
As I say, a stock S2000 is quite nice... and as a Honda, I'm thinkin there's likely to be a plethora of mods.
Cheers,
Blue

If you don't mind running it hard, it is probably one of the most fun cars out there.
I eould recommend that anyone that gets the chance go drive one. I guaranty it will put a smile on your face.
there fun, Iwould like to have one with a bunch of comptech goodies, but who has or wants to drop 10000 on the s2000 to maybe be competitive. If I had a girl and she wanted a nice little car, this is what I qould buy her no doubt though.
Well I traded in my S2000 for the Evo. I went through a Comptech supercharger and then a UR turbo kit and I still wanted more power. The S2000 is pretty fast but its all top end. With the supercharger I dynoed at 165 torque. The turbo kit gave some good power on the S2k but I didnt do any stronger internals on the engine and the compression ratio is so high I was always worried about it and didnt even really enjoy it. To make a S2k over 350hp you have to drop a lot of money on it (15k +). If I could have the S2000 with the Evo engine and AWD I think it would be perfect.

I also raced a stock s2000 from 3rd gear and I was (on purpose) right at his door, then I looked over and smiled and waved bye bye and just took off. When we got up to the stoplight, he caught up and I could see him laughing in my rear view with the thumbs up... Every s2000 driver I've encountered, stock or fast has been nothing but cool.

He probably was making 320WHP, but only like 200-220WTQ and that's being optimistic. Still S2000 are good cars, they should not beat an EVO from a roll, stop, race course, or anything else stock for stock, but if your not on your game, a S2000 could beat you, actually in that case it wouldn't really be the S2000 that beat you, but poor driving skills that did you in.
I guess the point of it all is, I've put less than $1500 in performance-related upgrades in my car, and the things that guy was telling me he'd done had to have added up to maybe 10 times that much...
On the other hand, driving through the sunny Maryland countryside this afternoon, it would have been a nice car to have!!!
(Incidentally, when we first "raced", he was in high 3rd and I was in low 4th. Initially, he pulled on me, but when he shifted to 4th, I was in high 4th and pulled back on him. I think if I'd have downshifted into 3rd at the beginning, I'd probably have won it outright... I guess you're right: Lack of skill did me in
)
My brother has an S2k (Stock) and his friend a modded one ... I can take both from the line .. I can still keep up with the modded one (Comptech Supercharger/Exhaust/Stock Intake) from a roll or through the canyons ... My car is stock so that should explain it ... But yeah S2000's are only good on high end ...
My brother has one. In order to make any kind of roll-on interesting, I have to select the next higher gear than what he is in and even then that only gives him a bit of a head start.
i have been around s2000's for quite a while now, i have built two of them. i have had much better all around results supercharging the s2000 instead of turboing it. the supercharger is much safer on the very high compression motor therefore the stock intenals can actually hold up to the power increase. turboing an s2000 is very dangerous without investing massive amounts of money into it. trust me.... hehe... but they are very fun and quick cars if you have the money!
Well. Reignman already said a few things about the S2000. But I have also owned one and traded it in for the S60.
The pros and cons of the S2000.
PROS:
1. Handling: Mid engine 50/50 weight distrbution RWD 2700 lbs 3 inches off the ground.. blah blah blah. You get the picture. Only a few other cars could beat the S2000 in the slalom.
2. Low End: I know you're thinking "WTF Mate?" But I owned both cars at the same time and drove both at the same time. The S2000 is faster than the Evo down low. READ: Before the Evo goes in to boost. The Evo weighs about 500 lbs. more than the S2000. So it's pretty simple to do the math... 2.0L 4cyl in a 2700 lb. car or a 2.0L 4cyl in a 3200 lb. car. The Evo and the S2000 are dead even to 60 from about 20 mph and then the Evo begins to walk it once the S2000 hits the end of 3rd gear.
3. Transmission: I'm already having problems with my Evo's synchro in to 2nd. But let's throw that to the side. The S2000 is the smoothest shifting transmission I have ever came across next to a Porsche 996 tranny.
4. Gas Mileage: I was averaging about 24 MPG in the S2000, now it's about 18 in the Evo.
CONS:
1. Acceleration outside of 0-60: Get beyond 90 mph and you better have an in-dash TV and Lord Of The Rings playing if you ever want to wait long enough to see it top out.
2. Practicality: It was unacceptable if you're anything other than a bachelor that goes to school and work. Can never get caught in a situation where there are 3 or more people. Because you can't take them. I drove from NY to LA on the AKA rally and I thought I was going to suffocate when the top was up. It was very cramped.
3. Modifying: This car is so tapped out for power, the only modifying you can do are weight savings. I weigh about 190. I have a skinny friend with a stock S2000, he weighs about 145. We raced from 60 to about 140. And he was about a car length in front of me by the end. At this time I had a CAI and titanium exhaust. If anything. The modifications hurt me. Now I eventually had FI, the supercharger was crap. Because anything aside from a roll, you would have to play catch up. Start off from a low RPM range, it will take you atleast 4 seconds before you even hit boost. Start off from a high RPM range, you will either A) Never get traction. Or B) Blow out your diff (which are notoriously weak on S2000s).
So, cliffs notes.......
S2000s are a lot of fun on a weekend. For being stock, i think honda has hit their engineering pinacle for a while.
But in real life, and against actual fast cars. They fall very short because they are so maxxed out.
In conclusion. If you want to modify a car to be fast, anything with a 4G63 with AWD will do way better hp gains/$ than an S2000 will ever come close too. Oh. And an Evo handles almost as well as an S2000.
