First Ride on a croch rocket

Finally got my new bike running really good took it out for a spin (my first time ever on a bike) IT WAS AWESOME!!! ITs a Yamaha FZR600 makes my Evo feel like a pig when it comes to speed.. Any other Evo owners like bikes? If there is anyone in my area I would up for some rides (I really need to practice cause I'm a total NOOOB)

EDIT: Is going over 80mph your first time on a bike a normal thing for people?

I'm a motorcycle guy as well. The thing you said about the speed compared to your EVO is the same reason why I don't really ever mod my cars......no matter what you do to a car it's not gonna be faster than a $7k bike. Currently I've got a 2003 SV650 but I've also owned a 2003 R6 and a 2000 Aprilia Mille recently. It's good to see that you made a reasonable choice for a first bike though and didn't go straight to the 1000cc bikes like most of the idiots do. That's a death sentence for sure. As far as going over 80mph on your first time out, well, that's probably not a good idea as you already know........I've been riding pretty much my whole life and I don't really get around 80mph much at all the street.....I save it for the track

Have fun though......bikes are great. Just don't treat the streets like a race track and for god's sake don't do stunts....that's the gayest trend EVER!!!!! Track days are cheap.....and so are track schools.....I'd suggest taking one in about 6-8 months if you really have the need for illegal speed. The track is nice and safe.

Yea I wasn't plannin stunts anytime soon I should probably learn to turn first.... I live in the middle of nowhere so good place to learn on back country roads. And yea I think this bike is perfect for a starter bike its a lil old and used but it was cheap it runs good and already has intake exhaust and stage 3 jetting kit so yea it moves just fine and im a small guy so 600cc tuned bike is just about as fast as a large guy on a 1000 its all about hp to weight ratio.

I have a Honda Superhawk. I love riding that thing. It's freaky here in LA when I see these squids flying down the freeway at 100+ wearing half helmets, sneakers, jeans and t-shirts bunched up around their necks from the wind. WTF! Social darwinism at work.

Another good deal is to head out to school. You get a break on your insurance, get a certificate for you motorcycle DL after you pass the road test, and learn a lot about riding. I went and took it because I can't stand the DMV but came away with a lot of useful knowledge.

Im a sportbike rider. I started 4 years ago on an F4i and now ride a ZX12R. Im a big guy so it suits me well. A few things to remember-you are never in control. Something can and will always happen unless you take every possible precaution. Some big mistakes:

Steel toe boots. Dont DONT wear them. You can lose your toes in an accident.
Dirt bike gloves. Cloth doesn't hold up well at 75 mph ashpalt, I have experience in this field.
Protect your ankles. Wear good boots, they make some very nice pairs that you can pass off as regular shoes but have all the twist/bend support you need just in case. Plus you can walk in them. A good helmet is a must and a jacket with armor that you can move around in is a must also.

Dont ride with guys who stunt. I used to, but took my antics to closed courses in limited numbers. Doing it on the street is just stupid, man. Its fun for a bit but go ahead, sit in the back of a cop car more than once a week and it the message gets through.

An FZR is a decent bike. Treat it with respect, the bikes they are producing these days can outrun her without breaking a sweat but forgiving they are not. Dont try to keep up, ride under your limit and you'll never have to find out where the edge is. Best of luck to you, if you ever have any questions, PM me. Also, check out www.sportbikes.net

Fred runs the board, but there are numerous people who can help, and numerous who are complete a-holes. You'll get flack for starting on a 600, but some people are just alarmists.

Oh, and incidentally, big guy on a 1200 versus a small guy on a 600? Come to NJ, we'll put the theory to test :-) Just kidding...I forgot, check out motorcyclecloseout.com They've got some serious deals on closeout last year modeled stuff. Really great prices.

yea when you ride don't short yourself on gear... been riding for about a a year and a half... PLEASE take the MSF course... and don't try to jump on the biggest bike out there. i started out with a 03 gixxer 600.... i love it and i TOTALLY RESPECT MY BIKE!!!!!

gearwise... a 150 dollar helment may be nice to ride with but you think its gonna protect as well as a 300+ dollar helment. before i bought my bike i bought my gear helment, jacket, boots, gloves.. and didn't short myself on anything.

i tell this to anyone who wants to ride... don't worry about what people think about what bike you ride or if you're slow.. learn at your own pace, ride with people who don't act a fool and HAVE FUN!!!!! thats what its all about anyway.

MSF is good, they teach you things you would never really know unless someone told you. Arai, Shoei, AGV, Suomy are all good brands. The best ones will cost 400-600 dollars. Dont skimp, please.

More so than any training course can offer you is common sense. It just doesn't come naturally to some, so try to make sure you put forthought to anything.

I had a 2004 ZX10r with a leo vincci cat back dyoned at 155whp in August at `12:00noon in Florida Bad *** bike but not a fun as a SV650.....If you want the baddest bike let me know. A turbo busa is hard to beat 200mph in the 1/4 is for the sick. I will stick to my evo and all my body parts.
