For God's sake be careful man. I started off on a 2003 Yamaha R6, much to many peoples dismay. Just take your time getting used to the bike, there's no rush. Soon enough you'll be cutting up the twisties and having a blast. Like others said the MSF course is good. It's a nice controlled environment where you get to learn and practice the basics. Other than that just try not to drop your bike.......it will make you wanna cry.

They do have pretty good prices... I got a new helmate (HJC) and a nice set of leather gloves... Currently looking at perferated jackets with armor in them... running out of cash though.... I looked into riding classes etc altho highly recomended they are filled up months in advance here... I have a ton of friends at work that ride 90% of them aren't into tricks or racing etc and would be good people to learn from so I will probably go riding with them to learn. Haven't looked at boots yet.. Ive got a set of heavy duty hiking boots with insane amount of support I know they aren't riding boots but due to cash issues I'm ganna have to stick with them for a while. I'm considering this jacket what do you think?

Thank you all for the good input and feedback

I raced a R6 from a stoplight today I hit the brakes when at about 60, I beat him out of the hole and I was ahead when I hit the brakes. This is with 4 tires, an airtank and a 80 pound floorjack. And yes, he would have pulled me quite easily if I hadn't hit the brakes.

It's funny how how someone said that you can mod your car all you want and it will never be as fast as a $7k bike. Nothing could be further from the truth. Anyone see the in car video of the AMS Evo going from 20-120 mph? Quick! How about the Turbotrix Evo? 9.95 sec 1/4 mile. HELLO!...that's faster than the Hayabusa, and that's over $10k. Something off topic, there was a video of a Skyline in Japan outrunning a Hayabusa on the highway! Not acceleration, but top end!

Well, bikes are very fast and very fun. You can build cars that are faster than motorcycles with very few modifications. A stock Z06 is faster than most motorcycles, after all most motorcycles aren't 1000CC sportbikes. I don't have a motocycle for one reason, safety. I don't think I could stand to wear full leathers, helmet, gloves and boots everytimes I ride, so anytime I went out I would really be chancing my safety. Not to mention nearly everyone in my family has been in a near fatal motorcycle accident. Whereas my car has airbags, seatbelts and a steelcage surrounding me. The fourdoors, AC, Heat just make it even more convincing.

And for the whole straight line- what's faster? There is a guy at my local track that has a street legal Hayabusa that run's 163 in the quarter, and there's quite a few like him also.

A stock R1 is capable of running low 9's to high 8's I have a friend who just bought a brand new one he races it on the tracks and has a basically stock set up (very minor adjustments) he is capable of running mid 8 seconds and tuned bikes get down in the 7's on a normal basis Bikes are much faster than cars its a very simple horse power to weight ratio. do the math

exactly.......a Busa and a ZX12 do 9's right off the showroom floor according the Motorcyclist magazine tests. A 9 second Civic will have to be rebuilt about every 3 times you run it.

Generally speaking if you're in a car and you beat a bike....the bike wasn't trying. An R6 does 11 seconds flat right from the showroom.....it should dust off anything on the street but the most modified cars. The liter bikes will kill anything that's street legal.

a Hayabusa did the 1/4 in 9.88 @ 143mph in a Motorcyclist magazine test. In top end cars will pretty much always win but in acceleration bikes win.

Bikes are fast, but there are Plenty of car onwers around here that'll lay a HURTING on to 600's Hell Just a Z06 with a 150 SHot will DEF keep up in a roll.

Got a Friend with a TT camaro that kills them
Got a friend with of all things a Typhoon and a huge turbo that pulls them.
Knwo a kid with an RX-7 and a T-78 pushing around 2600 pounds, that is teh fastest, makes the 600's look silly.

600s are fast but not unbeatable, 1000's are a *****.

I couldn't agree more with what everyone has been saying. Wear your protective gear. Don't be an idiot or try to impress anyone on it.

My strongest advice is to take a class because they will teach you things you will never in your wildest dreams begin to think about.

They are loads of fun when you bring it to the track and run it. I'm a big guy(240lbs) riding a Honda CBR 600 f4i and I can still run mid 11's on my stock bike. It's a totally different kind of speed than driving in a car.

Have fun and be safe.

ok now lets talk price.....
Z06 set up to handle 150 shot of nos at least 60 grand probably more
Very heavily modded TT camero probably 50k
getting an RX-7 down to that weight and and adding those types of mods I would guess 30's....

600 cc bike new 7 grand used 2 grand...
1000 cc bike new 10k used 5k

now with 50 grand in savings what do you think the bike is capable of if you put 10% of that in mods....

The guys I work with say my bike should run low 10's (I only weigh 160) Its got a totally redone air intake system and exhaust on it as well as stage 3 jetting... I don't know exactly what its capable of yet but I can assure you it makes my Evo feel like a pig.....
