evo vs s2k vs 350z

hey,

i'm just looking around at cars, and i just test drove the s2000 today... salesman didn't come with me so i got it up to redline once, pretty fun. I'm also planning on checking out the 350z sometime later this week maybe. i really loved the evo when i drove it, but the s2000 was fun too. when i get the car, i'll be paying for it (i've worked a lot so I've got enough money, I'm planning on buying it after my second year in college - 2 more years). how do you guys think the evo, s2k, 350z, and even sti compare? I wouldn't do too much modding right away (exhaust, intake, ecu flash, basic stuff). only thing is i live in jersey so i'm worried about rwd in the snow. anyway, what are your opinions?

You are asking a bunch of Evo owners what they would do. EVO al the way. Just make sure you can afford it. There are a lot of large costs to the car.

i drove an s2k through one winter in colorado....sold it the next summer. not fun if it's your ony car. unless you put snow tires on it () you'll probably get stuck.

i test drove the 04 s2k.... in all honesty... those are the only 2 cars i'd buy atm (my evo)

the 04 is alot better than the previous s2ks... saleswoman was with me so i only got it up to 4k.. car is near perfect quality!!! if i could do it all over again i'd go s2k... cause now i know, i defiantely know, that i didn't need the extra 2 doors... s2k is slow though, compared to the evo and sti.. top end is pretty great and with a vortech, look out!!!

i just can't deny my Honda roots....

if money wasn't a big factor then i'd go g35 and spend 10k more to get all the BS because i do sometimes bring the car on the interstate

All great cars stock and modded. Different purposes (well, STi and Evo are the same), so you really need to decide on what you want out of your sports car. And in two years, it's hard to know for sure what will have changed. A refreshed STi, the Evo X, a refresh on the 350, another update on the S2000 (or possibly discontined), a turbocharged RX8/RX7, etc.

I know people who've driven the S2000 year round in the winter (including one guy in Calgary, where it snows a lot more than in Jersey). Good snow tires are the key. A RWD with proper snow tires will be better than your average FWD with all-season tires.

IMO, if you go the 350Z or S2000 route, you'd be best to invest in a beater car if it's feasible.

yeah, i'm wondering what the future will bring. i've heard about the s2k being discontinued, and i figure the evo 9 or 10 will be around by then. hmm, maybe i can find a used 2000 s2k to go along with a new evo? that would be awesome but highly unlikely.

that is just not true. the '01-'03s were equally fast around a track and a LOT more fun.

I had an '01 and I have an '04 now. The '04 is much better, much more tractable. Plus the suspension feels planted without being harsh like the '00-'03s... Take it from an owner.

To the thread starter - I missed my S2K too much so I picked up another one to compliment the Evo.

I owned both...get the evo.
The s2k is slow, has no torque, no upgradibility, does not handle as well as the evo, and most s2k owners are *******s.
But the s2k has a vert, looks sexier out and in.....u decide

Wow.... I would argue all the above points (except the torque), but what's the point?

how the power is not even close to the evo?
Handling? can you say snap oversteer? the car demands alot
Upradability? I dont even have to explain....drop 2gs and ur lucky to get 10hp
Most s2k owners think they own exotics or something and are the best.

I owned a turbo s2k and it was still a piece of shiit. And all the events I attended....wow they are truely full of themselves.....not all of them but a good majority of them are.

and the modding they do to there cars is far from original. Stupid 600 carbon fiber intakes that make you loose hp. Stupid headers that are made out of titanium that costs 1500 and you loose power......man I had more fun with my miatas.
then you get on s2ki.com and they are giving props on how cool they are.

Simple fact is the evo does EVERYTHING better then the s2k. Acceleration, braking, blah blah
S2000 is definetly a looker....but Gawd this thread reminds of how I hated it.
A few years ago the s2k was the hottest car in its price range. But since the sti and evo have made it stateside its not even a comparison
